This is why I no longer donate to the Sierra Club or WWF or Greenpeace. Knee-jerk responses by environmental groups don't contribute anything to their credibility. It's not that I am anti-environmentalist, but I AM proactive. The bottom line is the botton line. If jobs and the economy of a region are at stake, do you really think people will ... See Moresacrifice their jobs to save the environment? Certainly not! SO...protect the environment by helping companies who are making even the slightest effort to be environmentally responsible and at least a little sustainable? Start small, and move from there. BABY STEPS!!!!! Money talks, and in a global marketplace, it pays to get the big spenders on your side. Once they see where the momentum is, that's where the money will flow.

SO? The answer? Go after the demand. Consumers WANT their coca-cala and diet-coke (or whatever artificial, artificially-sweetene. Reduce the demand and create and alternative, and it's likely that the big spenders will follow...My family no longer consumes soft drinks. Across the board...NO soft drinks. Do you think we make a difference? By ourselves, no. But for every family that follows our lead at elementary school functions and restaurants, that's a number of consumer dollars that does not go into the pockets of soft drink companies. Baby steps.

CommonDreams.org Drill, Obama, Drill.... On the same day we learn the Obama's EPA will take strides to use its authority to regulate carbon dioxide emissions, we also learn that the Minerals Management Service (MMS) will allow exploratory drilling in previously untouched Arctic waters. The EPA giveth and the Interior Department taketh away.

www.commondreams.org
WASHINGTON -- The Interior Department today gave the go-ahead for Shell Oil to begin drilling three exploratory wells in the Chukchi Sea, a move that opens the door for production in a new region of the Arctic.

The "Great Communicator tried and tried and tried to get NAFTA and other dastardly "free trade" agreements thru Congress - but failed. Daddy Bush tried with equal lack of success... And then came Clinton...sometimes referred to as the most successful GOP President since Eisenhower. For the better part of three decades the GOP has tried to force ... See Moredrilling in Alaska without success...and then came Obama! That there were Bush approved contracts does not hold water. Obama has already canned many Bush approved environmental disasters [largely unnoticed.] On its face this story stinks. It would be helpful to have more info before drawing any permanent conclusions - tho i remain skeptickle :-)

It matters on what day of the week it is on how much I defend the president, but yes I think we all have to recognize on the powers that this president is fighting against. Our congress and senate aren't exactly filled with the most progressive people of this country now is it? Unfortunately not. I don't think term limits are the answer though. ... See MoreCause once we have good progressives in there like sanders and kucinich I want to keep them as long as I can. I think campaign finance and corporate person-hood is where we should be looking.
