Compelling real-world reasons for certified staff
CompTIA Security+ Webinar
CompTIA will host a free webinar about CompTIA Security+ on Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m. (CDT).
Did you know that employees who have a certification in information security can earn a 10-14% higher salary than their non certif...ied counterparts?
And that the Department of Defense Directive 8570.1 requires 110,000 information assurance professionals in assigned duty positions, along with all 400,000 full- and part-time military service members, contractors, and local nationals who are performing information assurance functions, to have security certification within five years?
The opportunities for teaching courses that map to a security certification have never been greater.
This Webinar will explore how schools can start or expand an information security curriculum. It will discuss the current state of security, the changing face of attackers, employment trends, the different categories of security positions, and topics that should be covered in teaching network security, disaster recovery, operating system security, Internet security, firewall security, forensics, and security management. It will also look at the new CompTIA Security+ 2008 exam objectives along with 11 other security certifications.
Mark Ciampa, Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky and author of several security books for Course Technology/Cengage Learning, and Carol Balkcom, CompTIA’s Security+ Product Manager will be the guest speakers.
Please go to www.comptia.org/e2c to register. If you have any questions, please contact Connie Slagle at cslagle@comptia.org or 630-678-8341.

From Miles Jobgen, CompTIA A+ Product Manager This is one of my favorite times of the year. Not just because of the Olympics. Not just because the baseball season is gearing up for the playoffs. And not because football season is about to kickoff (and fantasy draft season is in full-force!)...

The CompTIA web site was hit by an SQL Injection Attack late on Sunday 7/6/08. The problem was noticed by our monitors and fixed shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, during the time of the attack, Google scanned our site and subsequently listed it as having ‘suspicious downloads’. A request was made to Google on Mon 7/7/...08 at 9AM to rescan and remove our site from its “blacklist”, which has now occurred. The CompTIA web site is secure and is not a source of malware or any other malicious code. We have taken action to ensure that this does not happen again. Read More

CompTIA A+ Certification
CompTIA certifications are good for life. However, CompTIA regularly updates certification exams to make sure they remain current and cover the latest technologies. If you were certified under the 2003 objectives, taking the 220-603 exam (2006 objectives) just shows employers/customers that your skills are up-to-date.
