Congressman Kurt Schrader The New York Times says the Recovery Package "is working."

A variety of economists say that stimulus legislation is helping the economy to grow again.

Have people already forgotten that the economic collapse occurred during the end of the Bush administration? And that it was the result of the policies of that administration? And is every news outlet that reports facts you don't like just so easily dismissed as biased? You are entitled to your opinions, not your own facts.

Tobi, you are absolutely right. Those who refuse to remember history are willfully ignorant and keep themselves that way by limiting their "news" to what Fox etc. gives them. Drug and Barney Frank references represent the level of discourse for those who don't really want to solve problems. Are there any suggestions for how to move the country out ... See Moreof the economic situation it is in? Is there a way to do that so everyone advances, not just special segments? What are the real mistakes that Obama has made (not knee-jerk political criticism) and what serious adjustments have to be made (without repeating the devastating missteps of the Bush era)?

Congressman Kurt Schrader Performance-based budgeting means evaluating, and making funding decisions, based on how successful and efficient government programs and agencies are with taxpayer dollars. I worked hard to implement these policies in Oregon and now I’m working to bring them to Washington D.C.

Domestic subsidies - Iraqi subsidies --Aren't our domestic and international interests to keep Americans alive? (Or was it to keep oil fields pumping?) Bombs are a lot more glamourous than regular check ups and immunizations, etc.

Besides, Iraq was just an expensive distraction from the war in Afghanistan. And we are using a chain saw to remove a splinter. Tweezers are more effective and cost a lot less.

China has always had our best interests at heart. LOL And our health care is 39th (not #1) in the world --even Italy is better.... See More

Tort reform is a joke - less than a fraction of 1% of health care $ goes to law suits --but law suits are flashy and play well in the media, everybody hates lawyers.

You have got to be freaking kidding me?? You just voted for the most fiscally irresponsible bill in the history of the world Congressman! If you believe what you are saying here then you need to put the pipe down and let it cool down and think about it! You didn't even have the stones to stand up and make sure we were going t5o continue to give "... See Morefree" health care to illegal aliens who aren't even supposed to be here! You swore an oath to uphold the laws of the USA and the Constitution ...you have done neither...

Congressman Kurt Schrader Devotion, Courage, Sacrifice. These are the words that come to mind when I think about our veterans and those who currently serve. Today and all days we owe them the same commitment and respect that they show through their service to all of us. Happy Veterans' Day!

Healthcare = stand in line, govt knows everything about you, govt will tell your doctor what you can have or not have, $$$$ that will escalate, then rationing. But first we get to pay for it for 3 years before we get anything. I don't see that as a "good" deal. Making history? I think your vote was on the wrong side!

You voted against a vast majority of the wishes of your own constituents to play the role of freshman lapdog and in doing so you voted in the most fiscally irresponsible legislation in the history of mankind! Don't get too comfy you can't sell out your constituents (the majority of them) and expect to stay in office too much longer than 2 years ...this is not what yopu said you would do when you ran for office

Indeed it was a good tele town hall, but am curious as to whether Congress is going to pass some real anti-fraud legislation that would finally hold CMS accountable for enforcing its own regulations. A good portion of fraud could be remedied if they would actually enforce current rules & regulations.
Oh, and are we going to finally do something ... See Moreabout Medicare Advantage overpayments? They used to be fixed at 95% of Medicare, but today are paid in the mid 120's to provide often "less than" Medicare services. That's pure cream especially when they subcontract at between 75 and 90%.
That's two examples of fraud & abuse that have yet to be addressed.
Keep up the great work Kurt!

Kurt, I was sick when you had your phone town hall but I want to urge you to vote for health care reform. Don't let the bill be weakened, it is already too weak. We need access to health care for everyone, without the profit motive interferring. Thank you.

Congressman Kurt Schrader The Statesman Journal says NOAA may bring huge benefits to our region as "Newport should see an influx of cash from supplies, construction, jobs and new residents who pay taxes, spend money and potentially buy homes. That effect could reach as high as $40 million per year and add 800 to 1,000 jobs to Lincoln County,"

www.statesmanjournal.com
The scene looks like any other office space except for two features: three 52-inch TV screens along the wall and workers dressed in dark blue jumpsuits reminiscent of Navy uniforms.
Dave Pearson
Dave Pearson
Yes, it's great that NOAA wants to put their station in Newport. However, moving the station from Seattle will cause a decrease in jobs and revenue in that area. Nobody is saying anything about that. It will also take tax revenue (Bonds) to build the station and employ the workers. Let's keep it in perspective, that even though it's nice to ... See Morehave the station in Newport... it's a Government entity. If this were a 100% pure private enterprise, I could get a little more excited. Simply, were taking a taxpayer driven government agency and moving it from one location to another. Are we really creating brand new jobs or just shifting taxpayer dollars around? Honestly. Hopefully this is good news for some "Local" Construction Companies and Local Construction Products as well. We'll be watching...

I think this talk of a Public Option is really just wolf in sheep's clothing. I think it is a plan to just raise rates and further pad the profits of the insurance companies. At this moment in time, no one can be denied care. Since there are many, many people without insurance, there is no proper account to bill. Thus the insurance companies have ... See Moreto recoup their costs through write-downs and higher rates for those with insurance. Once everyone is covered, then all procedures will be paid for. The only clear winner is the insurance company. Got to follow the money on this one.
