Blood at the Crossroads (New Report)

The world is reaching a crossroads
in deciding how to control the arms trade.

Governments must act now to create
effective and robust regulation.

This report shows through illustrative cases how that trade contributes to serious violations of human rights in different parts of the world. In particular, it seeks to help demonstrate why the establishment of a global Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) is an urgent necessity and how an ATT could work to save lives, preserve livelihoods and enhance respect for human rights.

Great news! World's Biggest Arms Traders Promise Global Arms Treaty.

Today at the United Nation after years of discussions and
debates, the vast majority of governments – 153 in total - agreed a timetable
to establish a "strong and robust" Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) with the
"highest common standards" to control international... transfers of
conventional arms.

Watch what it looked like when they all pressed the green button.

That's exactly why we need a *global* treaty to stop these kinds of transfers! In the meantime, though, the EU embargo *does* have a point: contrary to what the FT have said, quite a lot of the weaponry actually used in the Guinea killings *were* exported from Europe or from subsidiaries of European arms manufacturers: http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-10-27-voa43.cfm

The subject is not funny. I had a friend who blew his brains out in front of his kids and wife. He's dead, they'll be scarred forever. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people owning weapons, men and women, as long as they respect their family, and keep their weapons secured.

The absence of a duty and politicians to defend and extend civility amounts to casual warfare conducted for the benefit of Free Market ideology and undertakers.
