University Honors College - Oregon State University The UHC will be hosting a New Student Induction on Friday, September 25 at 10:00-11:30am in Peavy 130. This official welcome to the Honors community for all new UHC students for Fall 2009 and will be accompanied by a free gift for all UHC students who attend. Refreshments will be served prior to the event from 9:45 -10:00am.

Featured Honors Course for this fall: PHL 160H, Quests for Meaning: World Religions
This intro philosophy course is taught by a full professor with only 20 students in the class. They will study major religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Zen, Confucianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The history of each religion as well as modern portrayal in movies and the internet will be discussed.

University Honors College - Oregon State University Steve Cook is another of our wonderful honors professors. During winter term, he teaches an honors version of the course described in this article (GEO 300H). In this course, stduents investigate earth systems and environmental sustainability both in and and out of the classroom. One unique feature is the volunteer service project that students complete in groups. Read more in the article below.

Each academic year, Senior Instructor Steve Cook sees around 1,000 students go through his GEO 300 classes. Cook will admit that he can’t keep track of every face that comes before him, but that doesn’t mean he thinks it’s OK for students to slip anonymously in and out of his classes.
