The St. Tammany East and West Chambers of Commerce and St. Tammany Parish government were among 20 organizations and individuals recently honored by Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu and the Louisiana Division of the Arts at the Louisiana Cul...ture Awards.
The focus of the Louisiana Culture Awards program is to recognize individuals and organizations which make outstanding contributions to the cultural industries in Louisiana. This award highlights the best in the state and provides an opportunity to showcase to the nation what makes Louisiana’s cultural economy soar.
The East and West St. Tammany Chambers of Commerce have joined with several parish entities to form the Joint Cultural Economy Committee to facilitate growth, development, and increase awareness of their cultural economy. This coalition of arts and cultural organizations with business and government create an infrastructure to seize opportunities and be proactive with strategies like the 2008-09 grant program for artist entrepreneurs.
St. Tammany Parish government has been a tremendous champion of the Cultural Economy Initiative. Throughout the parish, there is great evidence of cultural economy growth. Through partnerships and collaborations they have leveraged parish investment with other funding to create viable cultural districts, exciting historic renovations and have used culture in a powerful way to build community.
“It was a great night for St. Tammany. These three awards are a special honor for our chambers and our parish. They are a symbol to other people and parishes around our state that our business and government leadership values our cultural-related businesses and artists. St. Tammany Parish epitomizes the intersection of culture and commerce,” stated Lacey Toledano, St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce president and CEO.
