The Cozumel Island is proud and full of joy to take part in this act that symbolizes the greatness of Maya civilization, which has transcended through time until these days, having contributed to countless discoveries and knowledge world wide.
Undoubtedly, one of the most significant discoveries is the precise astronomy... that led them to the creation of the lunar calendar that is more accurate than the solar calendar that we follow.
In honor to the great wise men of the distant past, Cozumel will be a very important and spectacular node of Reto México 2009. It will be the meeting point for acknowledged scientists of the whole country in a 4 day event that will culminate in a Guinness World Record imposition, which consists in the most quantity of telescopes observing the moon at the same time.
Hoping to count with your participation we want to welcome you to be part of the big community that will make of this experience a unique event in the most special place… Cozumel!!
¿Do you want to participate?
The only thing you need is a telescope with a tripod. If you are a rookie in the use of telescopes don’t worry! Specialists will help you with great tips and teaching you some observation techniques before the event and will even fix them in case you’re having trouble with your equipment. If you are about to buy your first telescope start with basic equipment that adjusts to fair budget, remember to take one step at a time and what better opportunity to submerge in this great world of astronomy than NOW?!
¿What is the next step?
You need to register on-line as soon as possible, before the event. Prior registration is advised to avoid long lines at the events’ locations.
Go to http://cosmowiki.astroscu.unam.mx and register now!
¿Do you want to bring family and friends?
Everyone can participate, but at the Guiness World Record will only participate two persons per telescope. The evaluation will only last half an hour, after the judge makes the count, public access will be permitted so everyone can enjoy the special time under the starry night by the sea. Live images of heavenly bodies will be transmitted along with other surprises!!
¿Are you worried about travel expenses?
There are many ways to arrive to Cozumel:
1) Non-stop flights to Cozumel arrive daily from the United States and other countries, check which airlines fly to Cozumel.
2) You can find cheaper tickets if you fly to Cancun
We give you some tips in case you choose this option:
