What do you get when you combine a wooden cigar box, a plank of wood and some strings? Toni Lyn explores this question with craft artisian Justin Reyna. It turns out that when you combine these things with Justin's DIY vision, you get some the finest examples of cigar box guitars ever.
These guitars are an important par...t of the history of American blues music. Justin honors that tradition, while adding his own DIY flair. Not satisfied with simply attaching an electric guitar neck to a a wooden cigar box, Reyna fashions his beautiful creations from blocks of exotic wood. The passion he puts into his work is evident in the final product.
Each custom guitar takes about a month to make and will set the new owner back around $700. And while Reyna certainly doesn't mind being rewarded for his efforts, he says he's driven by the desire to create. Let us know what you think of the story, and of Justin's work!

Caitlin Philips is a DC based crafter who makes beautiful purses out of old books. With lovely attention to the theme and colors of old books destined for the dumpster, Caitlin incorporates fabric, beaded handles, and buttons to create truly unique treasures.
In this episode of Crafty Nation, Toni Lyn gets to peek insid...e the studio of Caitlin Phillips as she and Toni help design a purse based on a book that is very special in Toni's life.
Caitlin shares that it was her mothers influence as an uber-crafter, her own pack rat tenancies, and a first job at a used book store that all led her down this path to create these one-of-a-kind purses. In our interview she told us, "It's just shocking how many books get thrown away." She also says that older books have elaborate cover art that lend themselves to a Rebound Designs transformation. Take a look and watch as Caitlin turns old books into beauty!
