Personal Information:
I am a fiction writer. My short story collection, Come Together, Fall Apart, was published in 2006. My debut novel, The World In Half, will drop in April 2009.

I was born in Delaware and have lived in Florida, Virginia, Indiana, Iowa, Texas, and Illinois. I write primarily about a place where I've never lived, though, but which lives in me - Panama. I'm half-Panamanian, and I've spent extended vacations with my family there nearly every year since I was born. It's one of my favorite plac... (read more)

Greetings from India, Cristina...and congratulations on the superlative story 'Carmen..' which I just finished reading on the Atlantic online. I found it sweet and bitter without bitterness at all, and that, to me, is an important attribute of a highly evolved writer. I am not sure I'll be able to get 'Come Together, Fall Apart' here in Bangalore, but I'll definitely try at all the leading bookstores. I think I shouldn't miss it. More power to your writing arm!

Cristina,

I stumbled upon the Atlantic's fiction issue today and am so happy I did. The last line of the story is perfect--I love the interplay between "ordinary" and "romantic," and how the ordinary doesn't come out poorly in the comparison.

Happy thoughts from the Bay Area!
