Cumberland Public Library The Children’s Room of Cumberland Public Library is pleased to announce a new series of workshops for children ages 8-12. “Young Picassos” will be offered at various times during the school year. In this first workshop the children will create an expressive painting inspired by their favorite book with guidance from th...e Children’s Room staff. Children bring your favorite book to the workshop. The completed paintings will be on display in the Children’s Room until January, 2010. This program will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 10:00-11:15 a.m. Space is limited. Registration begins Saturday, November 7, 2009 in the Children’s Room. Please bring your library card when registering. Preference will be given to children who reside in Cumberland. To defray the cost of the program materials, donations will be greatly appreciated. Cumberland Public Library
Robert Grandchamp will present a program on his new book, chronicling the life and times of the men who served in Battery G. At every major battle in the Civil War, these men participated, using a new technology, the rifled cannon to bring magnificent results on the battlefield. Robert will share the results of his yea...rs of research into these men, including seven soldiers who were awarded the Medal of Honor.
Robert Grandchamp, the author of The Boys of Adams' Battery G:The Civil War Through the Eyes of a Union Light Artillery Unit has written numerous articles and books about Rhode Island, the Civil War, and the American Revolution. He resides in Warwick, Rhode Island.
This program will include a book talk and a book signing.

MEET THE ARTISTS: Germaine Gerie Krobath, the professional artist who teaches watercolor, acrylic and oil painting classes at the Cumberland Public Library, and her students will be on hand to exhibit and talk about the variety of styles that they have painted.
The paintings will be on display in the Hayden Center for the month of November.

Students will learn essential care-giving and decision-making skills, safety skills to prevent and respond to emergencies, and tips on finding and interviewing for babysitting jobs.

Maximum: 14 students

Cumberland Public Library Sleepytime Storytime: Every Monday from September 28 - November 9, 2009 (6:45-7:15 PM). This is an ideal storytime for children whose parents work during the day. Children may wear their pajamas and bring a favorite stuffed animal. This drop-in program is comprised of 30 minutes of quiet stories and activities for children ages 3-6. No registration is required.
