KeiStar Production’s “WHAT THE FUNK?!” James Brown vs. Fela…Hit The Brooklyn Museum’s First Saturdays!!! DJ Spinna and Rich Medina made The Selections For The James Brown vs. Fela Kuti Tribute To Two Giants Of Funk Music.
There seemed to be over 1,000 heads in there…seriously! In turn shutting the BK Museum DOWN! Heads were nodding & bodies were rocking to James Brown to Public Enemy to Rob Base and back to Fela…it was an epic eve. The highlight of the night was “Say it Loud”. Only fitting being that it’s Black History Month and all…oh and in celebration of our new “Funky President” Obama!

SoBe, 3/27/08: Spinna is winding down a James Brown tribute party. He puts on Trouble Funk’s “Pump Me Up” to shout out DC heads who have set off the party all day long. Like any good DJ, Scratch, who’s been chillin’ by the bar, can’t resist the scratchability of that “pump-pump-pump-pump me up” intro, so he asks to get on for a sec. This ensues. Whoa. Stylus and I caught up with them afterwards.
