(Early Life of Diasaku Ikeda)
On January 2nd, 1928 Daisaku Ikeda was born to a poor family that were seaweed farmers. Little could anyone have ever imagined that he would be a mentor, leader, hero, peace activist, and truly one of the greatest humans that has ever lived. As a child he was sick, and was later diagnosed with tuberculosis, and doctors predicted we wouldn't live past the age of 30.

Daisaku Ikeda lost a brother in World War II, this lose developed him to have strong oppositions to war. In his late teens in Aug. 1947 he learned Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism through Josei Toda who at the time was the president of Soka Gakki. In 1948 Ikeda quit night school to help Josei Toda, in return president Toda taught him literature, history, mathematics, economics, law, science, and Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhist philosophy. As a disciple of Toda, Ikeda took on Toda's dream and mission to spread the teachings of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism and its principles of developing a peaceful world through the spread of the True Teachings of the Lotus Sutra. After the death of president Toda in 1958 Ikeda became president in 1960.

Daisaku Ikeda was determined not to let his mentor, Josei Toda, down. In 1979 On the island of Guam he helped establish a new, global organization- SGI (Soka Gakki International).

President Ikeda has promoted dialogue between people of different countries, cultures and belief-systems, as a fundamental step towards building world peace. As leader of the lay Buddhist movement, he has continued to meet with leading activists and thinkers from around the world. The resulting dialogues and publications, which encompass politics, culture, philosophy and science, explore life and the universe and seek solutions to the problems that confront our rapidly changing world. Ikeda has also founded peace-research, educational and cultural institutions with a view to promoting greater mutual understanding between nations. He has talked with more leaders than most ambassadors have during their career. A truly powerful and inspirational man that has taken responsibility of accomplishing Kosen-rufu and inspiring peoples Human Revolution.
As of January 2008 he has received 225 honorary doctorates, and 555 honorary citizenships. This is the foremost in the world! He shares these honors with his members as proof of the accomplishments of not just himself, but the Soka Gakki International as a whole.
