Dara Horn This interview with me appeared in Thursday's Philadelphia Inquirer. I am told I was on the cover of the Inquirer's magazine, along with a slightly more famous New Jersey Jew (Bruce Springsteen). I hope to see some of you at my talk in the Philadelphia area tomorrow night, even if I won't be opening for The Boss.

Kim

Kim I worked my way backwards in your oevre, starting with All Other Nights. I love all three of your books, but particularly want to thank you for The World to Come, which is opening up a love of yiddish literature. I'm reading anything I can find by Manger and Der Nister. My daughter and I are enjoying reading aloud from the Book of Paradise each night before bed. Thank you!

Edward Friedman

Edward Friedman Just finished reading "All Other Nights" the other evening. I couldn't put it down and have now recommended it to our synagogue's book group and hope they take me up on it. I also enjoyed reading "In the Image" and "The World to Come." I'm looking forward to the next one.

Debra Barton Grant

Debra Barton Grant Any interest in skyping into a small book club at our Jewish Federation in South Bend, Indiana- we are reading All Other Nights for next months selection?

Dara Horn "Pointing out flaws in a book called 'How to Be a Mentsh' feels a bit like bludgeoning a baby seal." But I did it anyway. http://www.forward.com/articles/116230/ http://www.forward.com/articles/116230/

Number one has to be the spelling of 'Mentsh'!

Dara Horn
No, the spelling of "mentsh" is a conscious choice. He is using the YIVO (Yiddish Scholarly Institute) system of transliteration, which I use in my novels as well. (He explains it in the book.) My problem with this book is as I discussed in the review-- it accidentally demonstrates the inadequacy of Judaism in understanding evil. I would welcome a conversation among readers on this problematic subject.

We all have free will and free choice. The evil aspect of our existence is very real and take sa lifetime to refine. Actually our purpose here is to work toward that refinement so that we can presnt ourselves to Hashem with a soul worthy of a place in his presence.

Yes, Schrodinger's Cat is not a coincidence. I suppose this would qualify as heavy-handed, except that very few readers have noticed it!
