- About Me:
- I represent the people of the 4th Congressional District of Michigan, which spans from Owosso to Greenville and northward to Traverse City and the Leelanau peninsula.
I am the top Republican on the Ways and Means Committee, which is one of the oldest and most powerful committees in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In my leadership role, I have a hand in setting the nation’s economic, health care and social welfare policies. The Ways and Means Committee has sole jurisdiction over tax policy and oversees tariff and trade laws, Medicare, Social Security, and welfare and unemployment programs.
I was born and raised in Midland, Michigan, where I still live with my wife and three children. My top priority has always been serving my constituents. I personally sign more than 40,000 constituent letters each year, in addition to thousands of one-on-one meetings, staying in close touch with the 4th District.
My signature issues include making America more competitive by lowering and simplifying tax rates for individuals, families and employers; reforming health care to focus on wellness and prevention; expanding access to quality, affordable health care through tax free savings accounts; protecting the welfare of our nation’s children through family focused foster care and adoption programs; and, promoting the production and use of alternative energy, which is a growing industry in Michigan and the Fourth Congressional District.
