Elbakin.net just put up an interview I did with them while in France. It was good fun, done at a patio table at a creperie in Rennes, with a small group of people I now think of as friends. The Elbakin.net folks also alerted me to another French Acacia development, but in the interests of creating...

Proof that arc copies of The Other Lands (Acacia, Book 2) exist and are out there in the world! Rick Klaw (The Geek Curmudgeon don't ya know) mentions having received a review copy. Nice. Little milestones in the process...

It's easy to be negative. People do it all the time, often without much thought. Bloggers sometimes seem to thrive on it. I guess it's like feeding from the energy of the dark side. Strong, the pull is. Cheap it is. Easy it is. At least, that's how I often feel about.....

Yesterday on NPR they read aloud the Declaration of Independence. I quite enjoyed listening to it, and it reminded me of how grave America's grievances with Britain were, how long they'd tried to come to terms, and how visionary the language and objectives were...

I can announce with some relief that I've just come to terms with Doubleday for another novel! It will, of course, be the third in the Acacia series. I don't have a title for it yet and it largely needs to be written, but I do have it mapped out in detail...

Excuse me for a moment, but I have another family thing to mention. For those who are interested in birthdays and kittens and happy kids... please take a look at The Shetland Trader. For those of you NOT interested in such things, feel free to ignore this post.

Time for a book recommendation!First a note, though... When I recommend a book I don't do so in the form of an in depth review that weighs up everything. Other folks do that. When I recommend something it just means it captured my interest and attention in a strong way, stood out a bit...

...Gudrun (my wife - pictured headless) has a new knitwear design up on her blog. It's called the Aestlight Shawl and it's supremely cool. It's sort of a lacy shawl, but it's not frilly. It's got a slightly more durable quality to it. I'm glad to say sales have been brisk. People like it...

Housing Situation:Floors sanded. Check. One coat of varnish down. Check.Varnished dried? Er... Not so check. We did it yesterday. It's supposed to take 4 hours to dry. 24 hours later it's glistening and moist, not a sign of dryness to be seen. I reckon it's the humidity here in MA at the moment...

Hi. I've got a mask on at the moment as I'm sanding the much abused floors of our house. Trying to get it done before our furniture arrives. Kinda lightheaded. Also, I'm sitting on a stone in my lawn picking up my nearest neighbor's satellite signal, so it's thanks to them that I can blog at all...

I am still in Baltimore. Send me an email vis this here facebook contraption. I would love to get together with you. By the way, I am also reading The War at The End of the World. It's terrific.
David Anthony Durham at 3:35pm June 23
I'm only half way tuned into the facebook contraption, so I'm not quite sure how to email you via it. But I can just give you my email. It's acacia.trilogy@yahoo.com. Drop me a line, sir.

So, a random thing I've had in my blog queue for a while. Might as well roll it out now since I'm driving across this great nation of ours. (That's the US I'm talking about.)I am:Ursula K. LeGuinPerhaps the most admired writing talent in the science fiction field.Yes, I'll admit it. I am Ursula...

Hi Brian,
Yessir. Good book, that.
Yessir. Good book, that.

Hey, so GRRM just put up a sample from the forthcoming Wild Cards novel. This one is called Suicide Kings, and it's out in December, I believe. It's not the one I'm involved in...
Dan at 8:14pm June 13
sigh...December is such a long long way away
David Anthony Durham at 8:51pm June 17
Nah. It'll be here before you know it!
At least, that's how it feels to me. When I think of all the things I will have had to have written by Dec... Well, I'm very happy to HAVE to write anything as fun as Acacia and Wild Cards and another thing that I'm working on. So, it's all good, but let's not rush the months passed...

Hi. Just wanted to mention that I heard from Dick Hill. He will be narrating The Other Lands! If everything goes smoothly they should be able to have it complete in time for a September publication.

So here's a category of Hugo nominees that I don't know much about, but that I'm quite interested in: Best Artist. I was checking them all out myself, and realized that I might as well put up some quick links up for your viewing pleasure...

What more can I say?Think I should give one of these away or something?
David Anthony Durham at 9:59pm June 8
Raffle it off? Now there's an idea, but...
I'd be far too invested in how much I could get for it. And then, sure, I'd mean to give the proceeds to a good cause, but then I'd start getting sketchy thoughts about a fancy sushi dinner or something. And then I'd feel bad in the morning... (Not physically. But morally, like.)
So... No, I'll not raffle it off. But I will give one away. Personally signed, and prior to publication.... Read More
But it'll have to wait a couple weeks, since we're half packed for our move from Cali to Mass. Once settled, I'd love to offer up some free stuff!
More soon...

Can't wait, good luck with the move.

As promised in an earlier post, here's that photo of Patrick Rothfuss and me in France. Having a beer. Just hanging out in Paris. You know, your everyday get together of two American fantasists on European soil. Must happen everyday, right?Man, that was a good trip...
Jocelyn at 6:01pm June 9
Paris? How do you do it? Meanwhile I'm here with my nose in the books........ Just kiddiing! Of course I can always make time to read one of yours.
You're doing it! I'm very proud of you.

Hi Jocie!
Hey, remember, I spent a good bit of time with my nose in books too. I have to admit, though, that it's nice to lift the head and look about a bit - as often as possible.
We'll be back on the East Coast in a little over a week. Yeah! We've got a pretty full schedule with completing the move, going to a few events and my teaching in Maine, but I look forward to getting our family's together sometime soon!... Read More

I'm very pleased to announce that we've come to terms with Tantor Media for The Other Lands (Acacia, Book 2). (At least, I think we have. These things are dealt with by other folks entirely...

I've never received so much attention here in Fresno as I have in the weeks since my departure has become public!First the local newspaper, the Fresno Bee, did a grand feature article in their Sunday insert section. Rather a nice article, really, and more accurate than most...

I feel like saying how sorry I am to hear about the Air France plane crash.I just flew Air France to and from Charles de Gaulle Airport, and you all know how much I've had France of the brain the last few weeks...

When I was in France doing French fantasy things I had this bit of paper with me that I kept looking at. It was mixed in with my travel details and conference information and various telephone numbers and stuff. It was a short essay written in my son's unsteady handwriting, called "My Perfect Day"...

I guess I'm not entirely finished with talking about Imaginales. Thanks to Cheryl Morgan, I'll be doing so for a while on YouTube! Here's me talking...And here's Hal Duncan...And here's Patricia Briggs...And here's Bruce Holland Rogers...
