From the success of the BNP to the expenses scandal, we are lurching from one moral crisis to another. Our leaders are able only to follow the public's mood, not shape it.

This has been the saddest fortnight since I entered Parliament nearly a decade ago. Voters have rightly been appalled by the steady stream of revelations about MPs' expenses.

David Lammy MP "Consumers today are saying, 'We want access to content at a time we want it'," he says. "They are saying they would like to move things around the different bits of technology they own and share it with friends and family. They are saying, 'We want to participate because technology gives us the means to do that. We want to cut and splice and come up with new creative pieces of work'."

David Lammy MP From the start, the Rise Festival allowed Londoners to come together and celebrate this city's wonderful diversity. When we are all worried about the rise of extremism, now is not the time to cancel this unique event. I whole heartedly back this campaign, and will do all I can to spread the message that we want to see this festival saved this year and secured for many years to come.

We, the undersigned, firmly believe Rise Festival should not have been cancelled and call for Boris Johnson to revive Rise for 2009 and beyond with its anti-racism message...
