David Simon is one of the great television writers in the history of the medium with such credits as "The Wire", "Homicide: Life on the Street", and "The Corner" to his credit. Started as a police reporter with The Baltimore Sun, after which he wrote his first novel, "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets". Shortly after, in 1993, "Homicide" was developed into a tv series for NBC. Simon left the Sun in 1995 and co-wrote another novel "The Corner" with Ed Burns in 1997. After the conclusion of "Homicide" and the subsequent "Homicide: The Movie", Simon and Burns co-wrote "The Corner" as an HBO miniseries. In 2002, Simon started his crowning achievement (so far) with "The Wire", a television series for HBO. Next up for Simon is "Generation Kill" about a reporter in Iraq in 2003.
