November 11th is a bittersweet occasion, for it commemorates the end of a great war and a return to relative peace, while at the same time honouring and mourning the sacrifices of our veterans. November 11th is a day of hope and gratitude, sadness and reflection. Though I’m not a ...

Pandemic influenza is here but should not cause panic. It is similar to seasonal influenza and personal hygiene can prevent much disease. High risk individuals must be given first access to the vaccine. Then others should be vaccinated to reduce spread...

It's important to have balanced coverage on these issues (which in fairness, mainstream media is not very good at), here's an alternative perspective: http://bit.ly/1z6C2h

P.S. Dr. Swan, much respect to you and don't mean to be rude jumping in like that, but an important subject such as this should be examined from all angels before we make a decision I personally believe :). It's our own health and welfare we are talking about here and in fairness, the vaccine was not tested on a single Canadian prior to be injected into people's arms at these clinics right? What can I say, I was inspired to share the link.

All the clinics had to do is scan a card (Alberta Health) to see if a person is at high risk and for others bring medicine bottles and figure out something for caregivers (for both pubic and private companies). They should have had a seperate lines or clinics for them that would be served first. You can't ask someone at high risk to come wait in ... See Moreline for hours (they could also catch something by just waiting with other people). Another option would be to have a doctor give shots to their high risk patients including ones with allergys (which by the way where the heck is the shot for people allergic to eggs,et?). or have the doctors issue wrist bands or something to their high risk patients which would allow them to jump the line. I'm a caregiver with a private compnay and I have a high risk patient and I can't jump the line or anything. I was turned away twice so my high risk patient is still at risk and he couldn't get in either. There is also an antiviral called Permivir. It was on cbs.com and it isn't approved yet, but there has been some use of it in the States and people that were hours away from death recovered quickly. It's like Tamiflu, but formulated for the Swine Flu. We should be able to sign a waiver and be allowed to have this. For line ups, why not do what Disneyland does? Issue a hour range to come back. Have a shot giver dedicated to high risk so they don't have to go home and back again. Cut the line off when you know you can't take anymore. One clinic didn't and people waited over 4hrs to be told "oh sorry it's closed now". Did the govern't officials have to deal with this for their shot?
EMS, police, fire, students should have got it in house. They do have nurses and EMS do know how to use a needle! They didn't even know they could go to the hospital for their shots (which was stupid anyways when it could be done in house). Communication fiasco. Also, they picked a location without a washroom, kinda like the poor planning of no washrooms at LRT stations.
They could have ran the clinics longer too with as many needle stations as possible,. Run them close to 24 hours if they weren't going to open more locations. Isn't the goal to get this out to as many people as quickly as possible?
I'm glad to hear that you are getting your view out to the media.

I've been speaking to the media about Bill 50 over the last few days. Here is what was said:

Read the Macleod Gazette this week-and comment in a fun jesting way about the Police College the PCs promised and all southern Alberta is waiting on
The Mayor is a PC riding wannabe and promotes the PC leg hopeful comments-he is Dave Coutts brother in law
We know that will not happen-just promises and farts in the wind now.
Come to southern Alberta... See More and Fort Macleod=listen to the people as you did as a Dr. and show some spirit and enthusiasm please
If you make that happen and do it well, I might well consider running for your party-but we must have a strategy
