David Vincenti Jessica de Koninck delivered a wonderful reading today at Symposia Bookstore; you'll have to visit my blog for more on that tomorrow (which will be linked here as soon as I figure out how). But she also brought the sad news that the terrific Dodge poet Jack Wiler has passed away after struggling with illness for a long time. Jack's poetry will live on. Of that there is no question.

David Vincenti Mel Brooks once observed that we are always disappoining in person because we cannot be "the distilled essence of ourselves." Writers seem to struggle with this quite a bit, don't we? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/27/books/review/Krystal-t.html?_r=2

David Vincenti Both New Jersey teams are doing well so far today (yeah, NY, I said it), and somehow this poem - one of my favorites from Billy Collins' Poetry 180 project - popped into my head. Poetry and pigksin are not opposites, my friends.

David Vincenti Busy weekend for poetry in New Jersey, but you're likely to find me at Diane Lockward's second Poetry Party, this one on the theme "When Arts Collide". Which means I'll have to stop tinkering with the newest poem long enough to actually read the darned thing.
