Dean of Engineering I am pleased to announce that despite the record flooding on the campus of the University of Louisville on August 4, 2009, the J. B. Speed School of Engineering buildings had no water damage. This was truly amazing given the devastation in facilities on both the Belknap and Health Sciences campuses resulting from a 6.5 inch downpour in just over an hour!

On April 24, 2009, the Speed School dedicated a new sculpture in front of J. B. Speed Hall. The piece is entitled, "Integrity", and is the result of a five year planning, creative and logistical effort. It was commissioned by Speed School alumnus, Bernie Dahlem, and we are very proud to have it in place. Please see htt...p://louisville.edu/speed/news-1/Integrit ySculptureDedication for an article about Integrity.Read More

The new sculpture at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering makes a striking first impression on those entering the school. But Bernie Dahlem, the engineering alumnus who was a driving force behind the sleek, polished-black statue, wants it to have a lasting impression on those leaving.

Dean of Engineering Watch for something BIG to be announced for the Speed School and U of L tomorrow (1/26/09)!

Dean of Engineering Congratulations, Stephen. Your selection as Engineer of the Year by the St. Louis Chapter of the MSPE reflects well upon you and your achievements as an engineer. It also reflects favorably upon the Speed School of Engineering. We are very pleased with your success as evidenced by this recognition. Thanks for sharing the news with us.

It's about time we both became "cool", right? Now that you have a beautiful daughter you will find it increasingly difficult to maintain the "cool factor", especially in her eyes as she ages!
Regarding the look she gave you when shown one of my old exams, there is no apparent evidence in her photo of the increduli...ty or sheer terror you exhibited when confronted by my exams in the past. But, I am much older and mellower now -
Congratulations to you and Nas on starting your family.

Jon:
Always good to hear from alumni, especially those from Lexington who have sons in Speed School! What is your son's name and major? If he is having a good experience at Speed School tell me about it here on Facebook. If he's having a less than good experience, send me an e-mail note or call me.
And, thanks for your support!

Dean of Engineering
Tyson:
Thanks for your post. I don't know who and isn't a Triangle, but I appreciate your interest in getting to know me a little better.
Best wishes

Thanks for your question regarding the progress on the Kersey building renovation. The architects will have the construction drawings finished on December 8. Then, bids will be solicited from construction companies and an award expedited so that the project can begin in January. The renovation must be completed b...y the start of classes for the Fall 2009 semester. We are critically short of space, and we desperately need the renovated 34,000 sq. ft. that Kersey will provide!
We have raised about half the estimated cost of the project in donations and pledges thus far. And, I have secured a loan so that the project can proceed while we continue raising the remainder of the cost.
So, bottom line, we still need everyone's help to complete and pay for this critical project.Read More
