Debbie Caffrey Back to work, but honestly I am ready. So, give me some feedback, please. What do you think is missing in quilting? In other words, what would make the time you spend quilting more fun, interesting, exciting, challenging, fulfilling, enjoyable, productive, ... ?

Janet and Valerie, I find I accomplish so much more if I take the time to organize before I begin, whether it is on my desk, in the studio, in the kitchen, ... I tell my students that part of what I am teaching them in my workshops is how to organize your approach. There are a lot of ways organization saves time. One way is placing all of your ... See Morepatches in the same direction before chain-piecing. You are much less likely to sew something to the wrong place or sew something right side to wrong side and have to spend time ripping. That's just one little example.

Debbie Caffrey As I work on the nine new mystery patterns that I have designed in the last two days, a question occurred. Many of you became acquainted with my books and patterns through mysteries, others through my books, especially Open a Can of Worms. How did you learn of my quilting designs?

Debbie Caffrey I'm on a roll! I designed and drafted six new patterns today. More are spinning around in my brain. Once I get the others drafted I will start assigning who gets which mystery. Will you be catching one of my mystery classes in 2010 as I travel around the country? How about participating in a shop hop that distributes one of my patterns?

I'll have to keep the Culinary Institute in mind. The calendar is pretty full at that time, but it sounds very interesting.

Debbie Caffrey Who needs shape sorter toys for a one year old when you have a ruler rack with eight slots and lots of small rotary cutting rulers? And pretty spools of thread and a small galvanized metal watering can? Claire and I had fun in my studio today!

I opened my quilt shop when my daughter was 15 months old. She loved playing with all those things! Now she's almost 7 and my customers are amazed at her use of color, her ability to sew and now even use the embroidery machine! It take a quilt shop (studio) to raise a child!

Debbie Caffrey Computer guy finished and my keyboard crashed as he was driving away! Not to worry, I pulled out a non-wireless one, plugged it in, restarted the computer, and all is wonderful. I like this keyboard, and the cord is a non-issue. It just goes down the grommet with the printer, two monitors, stapler, calculator, credit c...ard machine, and telephone cords. What's one more cord?

Debbie Caffrey The studio looks so nice today. I finally put away everything from the crazy November travel and vacuumed the floor. With all the quilts on the walls and a top that is waiting for a pieced border laying on my pressing table, it really looks like a quilting studio now. Well, it looks like one that never gets used, but I... hope to change that. One more day and the garage will be empty enough to get my car in!

I hung a dozen small quilts in my studio and upstairs bathroom, repositioned the towel bar in the upstairs bathroom, hung a large print above the towel bar and a stained glass piece that I made more than twenty years ago in front of the glass block, and cleaned the bathroom (Okay, that last part wasn't fun.). I assembled a bookcase and began ... See Morecarrying boxes of books from my garage upstairs to the bookcases. I am getting closer to being moved in and getting my car into the garage!
