A month ago, I found a letter to the editor published in a newspaper in Idaho about killing the wolves. The writer stated that she was against releasing the wolves, and is strongly against killing them now. Her words were " how very stupid of us!"

Vivenne,
Louise is right - writing a letter to the editor is a great way to make an impact. You can also try to set up a meeting with your state legislators and members of congress to discuss issues that are important to you. It's our elected officials' job to listen to what their constituents have to say -- and most enjoy hearing it.
Defenders has a field office in Boise and in Bozeman (Bozeman's probably closer to you, if you're in Eastern ID).
Check out the "Where we work" section on our website to learn more: http://www.defenders.org/about_us/where_we_work/index.php
Defenders also organizes volunteer projects to help conserve wildlife around the country. I can't guarantee that we'll be doing anything in your area in the near future, but if you visit our Wildlife Volunteer Corps page and register, we'll be in touch when we make it to your neck of the woods: http://www.defenders.org/take_action/wvc/index.php
thanks so much for your ongoing support,
Defenders

Vivenne,

Have you tried writing letters to your local newspaper? That is about the only other thing I can think of that you can do besides what all you have already done.

Hang in there and keep trying.

Thanks for helping to protect the worlds wildlife! If we don't speak up for them, who will? I am planning to visit the beautiful wolves of Yellowstone in the near future and am hoping the right officials listen to the reasonable voice of the people and stop the huntings. We will succeed. God Bless!

Letter from Barbara Boxer as a response for the complaint regarding Arctic Drilling - it's positive - and I hope also effective in the future.

Dear Mrs. U.

Thank you for writing to me in opposition to oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. I appreciate hearing from you, and I have been a leader in the Congressional effort to block drilling in this pristine and unique place.

I am pleased to report that I have joined 24 of my colleagues as an original co-sponsor of S.2316, a bill that would designate more than 1.5 million acres of the Refuge as wilderness, the greatest protection available for public land. This bill has been referred to the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee. As Chairman of the committee, I will work with my colleagues to bring S.2316 to the Senate floor.

As you may know, commercial interests have pushed for oil and gas development along the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge for more than two decades. I am confident that with continued strong public support, we will keep blocking every ill-conceived plan to drill in this vulnerable Arctic region.

Drilling in the Arctic Refuge is not the solution to our energy problems. We could do much more through conservation and efficiency measures such as requiring better replacement tires on cars, closing the SUV gas mileage loophole, or setting gas mileage standards at 35 miles per gallon - which would be accomplished by 2020 under the comprehensive energy bill that was passed by Congress and signed into law (P.L.110-140) in December 2007. Any one of those steps would save more oil than we coul d ever extract from the Refuge.

Again, thank you for writing to me. As a leader in the effort to block drilling in the Arctic region, I will use all the powers I have as a United States Senator to make sure that the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge remains an unspoiled wilderness for future generations to enjoy.

Barbara Boxer, United States Senator
