Denis Johnson is the author of several books of poetry including THE INCOGNITO LOUNGE and THE VEIL; a number of novels including ANGELS, THE STARS AT NOON, RESUSCITATION OF A HANGED MAN, and, most recently, the National Book Award-winning TREE OF SMOKE; a collection of short stories, JESUS' SON; a collection of journalistic essays, SEEK: REPORTS FROM THE EDGES OF AMERICA & BEYOND; and a number of plays that have been produced in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Seattle. He holds an MFA degree from the University of Iowa. He has received many awards for his work, including a Whiting Writer’s Award (1986) and a Lannan Fellowship in Fiction in 1993. In 2002 Johnson won the Aga Khan Prize for Fiction from THE PARIS REVIEW for his novella TRAIN DREAMS.
