- The Design Trust for Public Space is a nonprofit organization in New York City. We partner with community groups and city agencies that are seeking design guidance, then give fellowships to the city's top private sector design professionals to work with them.
- Mission:
- If you represent a community group, city agency, or other public entity confronting a challenging public space issue, we'll connect you with the targeted expertise necessary to achieve your vision. A request for proposals is available at designtrust.org.
If you are a private sector professional looking to improve public space in New York City, a Design Trust fellowship can enable your expertise. Contact us to learn how your practice can play a role.
If you just love public space, we look forward to seeing you on Facebook or at one of our free events. For interesting and useful material about our work and the public realm in general, check out designtrust.org, I (heart) Public Space, or download one of our free publications (purchasing them is great too).
Do you love public space? - Products:
- Design Trust projects result in exhibitions, publications, public presentations and in some cases, built work. We have completed over two dozens projects across the five boroughs since 1995.
The Design Trust lists in its accomplishments the realization of High Line Park, which we helped save from demolition by the creation of a feasibility study in 2001; the publication of high performance guidelines for buildings (1998), infrastructure (1999), and parks (summer 2009), setting the standard for sustainable best practices for the NYC Departments of Design and Construction, Transportation, and Parks and Recreation; and the presentation of major exhibitions envisioning the future of the NYC taxi at the NY International Auto Show (2007), Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn (2008), and the Grand Concourse in the Bronx (November 2009).
