Detroit, MI : December 19, 2009 - Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming to town! Joining them will be the Detroit Edison Public School Academy Children's Choir, performing Christmas carols.
It comes as no surprise that Santa Claus will be a little busy this Christmas season. Fortunately, Santa is taking some time out of his h...ectic holiday schedule to make a special appearance at Eastern Market on Saturday December 19 from 10am-1pm. Santa & Mrs. Claus will be located inside the heated Shed 5 located on Alfred and Russell Street.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on-hand to greet guests both young and young-at-heart while his helpers take pictures of the special experience. Children can have their pictures taken with Santa and remind him one more time what's on their Christmas lists. Photos with Santa cost $3.00 and $1.00 will be donated to the Salvation Army. Photos will be sent via email for you to print and share with your family & friends all over the world.
"With ice sculpting performances and Santa & Mrs. Claus coming to Eastern Market, it's a great time to do some holiday shopping and make a few Christmas memories along the way," said Dan Carmody, President Eastern Market Corporation. Eastern Market will be spreading lots of holiday cheer. We invite everyone to avoid the long lines at the mall and do their holiday shopping at Eastern Market."

Eastern Market Holds Electronic Waste Donation Drive
Give Old Phones, Pagers, PDA’s and Digital Cameras to a Great Cause
Detroit, MI – November 7, 2009 – Eastern Market is holding an e-waste recycling drive on Saturday November 7th. Recycling for Charities will be located in front of Shed 5 on Russell between Alfred and... Wilkins from7AM – 5PM.
For each cell phone, pager, PDA or digital camera collected Eastern Market will receive a monetary donation.
All makes and models, regardless of working condition will be accepted. Phones must be deactivated before they are donated.
"We're very excited about this opportunity", said Dan Carmody, President of Eastern Market Corporation. This drive not only benefits Eastern Market but it helps keep the environment clean too. We look forward to a continued partnership during 2010”.
Since we are all interdependent on the well being of the environment and each other, everyone benefits when landfills and ecosystems stay free of electronic waste. By keeping toxins out of the environment, we are protecting wildlife and our children from unsafe exposure to harmful chemicals. By the end of this year, there will be approximately 550 million unused mobile and wireless phones stockpiled in the United States awaiting proper disposal. That number is expected to grow by upward of 175 million in each of the following years.
The goal of recycling e-waste is to prevent it from gathering in landfills where it can harm the environment. Cellular phones and other small electronic devices contain toxins such as lead and mercury that can leak out of landfills and contaminate sources of drinking water. Recycling for Charity donations are tax deductible. When you make your wireless donation, everyone benefits! More information about Recycling for Charities can be found at www.recyclingforcharities.com.
