Dez Cordas Take a musical journey with Dez Cordas, an unusual duo featuring double bassist Craig Butterfield and guitarist Matthew Slotkin, through an eclectic mix of musical styles from tango to jazz to classical. Both musicians are classically trained, yet show their diverse musical roots in pieces by Manuel De Falla, Robert Be...aser, Pablo Sarasate and Astor Piazzolla. The duo will perform their transcriptions of Beaser’s “Mountain Songs,” Da Falla’s “Seven Popular Spanish Songs,” Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen” and more. Butterfield is assistant professor of double bass at the University of South Carolina. He has concertized on the classical stage around the world in addition to touring and recording with jazz legend Maynard Ferguson, as one of the only contemporary bassists truly comfortable and accomplished in both genres. Slotkin is director of guitar studies at Mansfield University and has recorded a solo CD on the Centaur label. This performance is free and open to the public.
