Diabetes Self-Management This week, the Article of the Week might be especially useful to you; it's DSM's annual New Tools round-up of the diabetes drugs and tools (pens, meters, lancets, etc.) that came out over the past year or will be coming out early next year. Take a look! http://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/articles/Tools-and-Technology/New-Tools-2009/

I didn't see anything about the Sidekick meter on the site, but then again, it's not 'new'. Still, for $20 or so it's very convenient.

Ron Cushing My 6-yr old grandson was just diagnosed with Type 1. Lots of stuff to learn. I gave him his shot yesterday for the first time. Proud to be the only one in the extended family to step up to the plate besides Mom & Dad. Thanks for your support

Diabetes Self-Management Yesterday's Flashpoints!—by the end of the week, a law prohibiting employer discrimination by genetic profile or family history goes into effect. Do you think this new legislation will help you?

A new law forbids some discrimination based on genetic information — but does it go far enough?
Beverly Brewer

Yes, if employer's have discriminated against a person with this disease this law will help. Because of the effort of the Diabetic association and self-management this a disease that can be control through information, support and management. This is great news!

Diabetes Self-Management Last week's Flashpoints! on health-care has sparked a heated debate on the DSM website! We have a lot of new members since I posted last week, so I'm throwing it out there again: what do you all think of the ADA's support of the Affordable Health Care for America Act? (DSM has no official position on the bill; we are not in any way affiliated with the ADA.)

The American Diabetes Association praises the bill just passed by the House of Representatives — where do you stand on the bill?

Some health care reform is necessary for me to stay alive. My insurance is trying to pull my meds which are keeping me alive.

Hi Barbara! Actually, we haven't made an announcement yet, but over the past few weeks we've added about 200 recipes to the DSM catalog, and we're working on a re-organization of all the recipes to make it easier for people to find what they're looking for. In the meantime, check out our new and old recipes here: http://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/Recipes/

Diabetes Self-Management I think (and hope!) that this particular Flashpoints! will generate a lot of discussion—the American Diabetes Association has spoken out in support of the Affordable Health Care for America Act just passed by the House. Granted, I was demoted to 'abnormal glucose tolerance' not long ago, but it took me 3 years of self-managing to get there and a bit of $$$. However, with the Sidekick metering system and Reli-On's mail in A1C home kit, my costs are WAY down. My weight remains good, and my last A1C was 5.4. I realize that more severe cases and Type-1 can cost a lot... Read More, and there are many who do need help. I am not a fan of this plan, though, and personally, don't want it. No, I do not have any form of health care coverage, either.

If you like curry dishes, no doubt you're familiar with the bright yellow or orange color of the sauce. This vivid color is due to turmeric, a spice that comes from the rhizome, or underground stem (similar to ginger!), of the Curcuma longa plant. ...
