Diana Dean, will be leaving for Florence, Italy on December 1st where she has been invited to exhibit in the seventh edition of the Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea of Florence.
It will be held from 5th to13th December, 2009 in the historical setting of The Fortezza da Basso, a beautiful Renaissance fort...ress in Florence that evokes the splendid time period when the Medici family were governors and is the ideal place to host this prestigious event. Built in 1534 by Antonio da Sangallo, it is now the most important exhibition centre in the city of Florence, Italy.
Over 800 Biennale artists from all over the world will exhibit more than 2,500 works of art and will take part in the exhibition for an extraordinary encounter between different cultures, styles and languages. The objective of the Florence Biennial is to diffuse, without any economic, social, cultural, current or style barriers and prejudices, the artistic nature of all populations throughout the world. This is why it belongs to the United Nations programme "Dialogue Among Civilisation" since 2001. http://www.florencebiennale.org/ing_spon sor.html
With its 11,000 sq meters and with more than 800 artists from 74 countries, the Biennial of Florence is the largest exhibition of Contemporary Art in the world. Inside it has Theatre Areas that are filled every day with Concerts, Conferences, Performances and the active presence of all artists. On Saturday 8th December the association "Artists for Human Rights" will present a special prize to the Biennial for its commitment in cultural dialogue.
Dean will be exhibiting "La Cocina", the final piece in a 10 painting interconnected series called "The Banquet" whichis 68 feet in total length when displayed as one piece. The series is part of a larger project that includes life sizedsculpture figures when completed.
