Diocese of Buffalo What a day with Archbishop Dolan! Evening Prayer followed by the Cure Ars dinner. Huge turnout for both events. Sadly, outside of YNN, local media virtually ignoed the visit. We've posted two stories on our Web site.

For the most part, the buildings are old, difficult to maintain and situated in less-than-ideal neighborhoods.

I am not on either 'side' of this issue necessarily. I do however wonder why Uno Voce was not able to purchase any of the churches--I am sure there is more to the story than what I read today.
Also, these may be "just buildings" but to me there is such sadness in seeing them sold off, and in many cases to other denominations. These are mostly ... Read Morechurches I have never been to, so I have no other attachment to them than their Catholic identity.
I saw photos of a beautiful Catholic church which had cleared out the pews for leather chairs. It is a sore reality to realize there was once such a desire for worshipers to have their own parishes and work so hard to build them...and now the reality is that many have moved from this area or don't go to Mass.
I don't think its wrong to be sad over this. I still dream of the childhood home I grew up in. I would love to be able to go back inside and relive the memories. I would be sad to hear that it was sold for purposes other than a family home or crumbling in disrepair for any reason.

Three things that every US Catholic should carry on the fleshy tablets of their hearts: accountability, accountability, accountability. Demand to know how every dollar is spent. This is the unpublicized responsibility of Catholic stewardship. Did anyone speak out as the "12 crystal chandeliers" were hoisted? Were future donations redirected toward worthier Catholic enterprises?
