Discovery Space I still can't believe "Climategate" is big news... but obviously some conspiracy nuts are hellbent on publishing their opinions on the matter. So here's mine.

When discussing man-made climate change (or anthropogenic global warming), I often drift into unfamiliar (and sometimes disturbing) territory. That territory

its ashame discovery space won't allow me to post anymore on their magazine.
anyway, here was my comment that wasn't posted
just happened to stil have it on the clipboard-

hi, im one of those conspiritorists... See More

its not really about the pure science.

its about slanted science. corporately steered science. its about control, and manipulation.

its about the lie being different on every level (even ours)

any thought on the carbon dioxide print following the climate change, not leading it?

i guess if enough overly paid scientists scream as loud as us conspiritorists, that will resolve the issue.

how about keeping the science as science and politics as politics, and total world power grab by the bankers, as just a world power grab by the bankers?

the copenhagen treaty, will just put too much power into the hands of to few people. they say "oh we will have scientists make all the decisions" but seriously, all the real scientists, have been discredited, and all that are left are corporate puppets, who will print anything, their sponsors tell them to, say anything their sponsors tell them to.

if no one outright believes the science anymore, its because you have all done this to yourselves.

stick at what you are good at. return science to something pure, if was ever that.

worry about your personal credibility. not the corporation's who rule over you, rule over us.

Climategate is not likely evidence of a master conspiracy. But you shouldn't arrogantly dismiss this story. It could very well be evidence of ideological scientist who will shade the data towards on particular outcome when in doubt or for effect.

The use of the word 'trick' may just be an unfortunate use of the word. But the discussions regarding circumventing the law under FOIA are in and of themselves despicable.

A reasonable person has reason to doubt their numbers and predictions even though they may accept that humans are having a strong effect upon the planet. ... See More

I don't know why they would avoid such disclosures but I am inclined to take a decidedly negative inference until they produce the raw data.

This story hurts your cause. It makes it more difficult to convince the majority of people who are caught up with their lives that they need to stop and pay attention.

Al I 'invented the internet' Gore doesn't help your case at all. When he is not being clownish, he is investing in companies that will profit from his political activities. People who like gore don't need any convincing.

I find it incredible to think that human's are not having a significant effect on the climate. Regardless of whether you believe this means doomsday is right around the corner or in the distant future, Kyoto/Copenhagen solutions are simply not workable.

The developing world will make up for our carbon slack even if you can convince us to do great harm to our livelihood for an extremely small reduction in temp. Innovation is the key. Such is paid for by profit as is scientific research.

Until innovation solves the problem, we need to do what is practical and efficient now. Energies like Natural gas or Hydrogen could greatly slow down the process with a little investment. Instead Obama wants to build electric car stations. This will only make people feel less personally responsible.

Well, robots can handle environments that humans cannot, and require minimum substanance. They can also travel for much longer distances w/out any physiological or psychological effects. But I do agree that it takes the fun out of the whole human experience. And the astronaut who chose to be part of space flight knows that part of the scientific exploration is how space flight affects the human body. I say we humans need to experience this!
