I wonder how programs such as Pixie might affect traditional expectations of education; what will be the new benchmarks for each developmental stage post full technological integration?

Are we seeing the end of paper & pencil assessment in kindergarten?

Distance Education and Training Council According to this study, students in online courses actually are LESS likely to cheat than students in traditional, face-to-face classes. Do you agree with the results? Why (or why not)?

chronicle.com
A new study contradicts the perception that cheating is more widespread in online classes, finding that students in virtual courses were less likely to cheat than their face-to-face peers. You can’t ...

Agreed. Successful online students are typically self-motivated, mature adults who are not studying for a grade, but for an education. The motivation to "cheat" is less prevalent because the learning goals are self-directed. The question is not how to prevent cheating in any context, but why a student would even desire to cheat in the first place; if learning is the goal of the student and supported by the instruction, cheating should be irrelevant.

Well designed online courses require students to create products and complete activitites that demonstrate higher order thinking skills. Those types of assignments are diffcult to cheat on. Also, instructor-student interaction is much more prevalent in online classes, making cheating much more difficult as instructors have better knowledge of ... See Moreindividual student work. As Joshua pointed out, online learners are also generally self directed learners. While a single study of 225 students may not yield statistically significant results, I fully agree that students in online courses are less likely to cheat.

Carmen I am very interested in distance education and training. I am a professor at the University of Puerto Rico. If there are any seminars or conferences scheduled to be offered in Puerto Rico, please keep me posted. If there are none, I am sure that you would have a tremendous turnout. Distance Education is fast becoming very popular here in Puerto Rico.
