District Playground Invite your friends!

================

District Playground is pleased to invite you to Dream It, Do It, See It, Be It, our first art opening, on July 11th, 2009. This non-curated show celebrates our participants' success in bringing their dreams to life. Bold colors, beautiful sculptures constructed from found materials..., photographs that will trigger your fantasies, and paintings that will ignite your imagination.

We'll have the grill going, great music playing, a stone labyrinth, a donation bar, multiple painting opportunities and paper mache and mosaic workshops throughout the day. You can relax in our very own speakeasy and discover beautiful creations behind every door. Come early, stay late, and bring a friend! If you're lucky, you'll catch us dancing!

Artists include Doug Sanford, Christie Otvos, Jamie Love, Christopher Hoppe, Reggie Pointer, Byron Peck, and a team of artists who participated on the Bright Idea sculpture series: Meredith Keen, Liz Kramer, Shannon Best, Tom Martin, Reggie Pointer, Casey O'Rouke, Mike Verdon, Barbara Stuckey, Brewster Thackery, David Freedman, Dan Dowhans, Ellie Baskins, Elissa Thompson, Solveig Mortesen, David Friedman, and Jennifer Woodward. Anita Flower, a reiki healer, will be creating a stone labyrinth and conducting workshops to those interested in learning more about the healing arts.

If *YOU* want to be involved, even better! We have space available to show your art, and invite you to bring a piece or three to the gallery at any point over the duration of the show. Contact us if you have questions.

And there's more! We are also proud to share the day with the first public showing of K Station Studios, run by Kathleen Blair. Stop by her studio in the basement of the house to check out her work! http://www.kstationstudio.com/

Doug, let's find a time for you to come by the house. You and I will pretty much start panicking around the same time. :-)

District Playground The Red Box Project is a gift to the community, an opportunity for individuals to tap into their emotions and release them through sound (or perhaps through silence), in a semi-private, accessible space on the 9th floor at Artomatic. Seriously.... go on and try it. Nobody is watching!

Artomatic opens on May 29th and... runs through July 5th. www.artomatic.org

For more information on this project and others, check out our new(ish) website, complete with a creative community arts calendar. Check back often for info on cool events happening around the city.

Emotional Release - Do What You Think You Couldn't Do

District Playground

District Playground The Red Box Project made its debut on a sidewalk in Chinatown on April 28th, 2009. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon during which passers-by joined us to let out emotions of joy and anger. People cheered, screamed, danced, and even prayed within the privacy of the box. Our cheeks hurt from laughing so much!

Still, t...here were also many who walked by without so much as a second look. It was an opportunity to witness firsthand how many of us have buried our playful tendencies - and gives us here at District Playground even more incentive to create opportunities to help set our imaginations free once again!

Keep your eyes out for the Red Box Project on sidewalks throughout the city later this summer!

You'd think, right? Watching folks' feet was fun. People jumping up and down, running in place. Lots of emotions to let out!
