Doc Hastings

Doc Hastings This article in the Wall Street Journal today highlights how the new government takeover of health care law is leading to large increases in health insurance premiums for Americans. Yet another reason to repeal the law and replace it with commonsense ideas that will lower costs and increase access.

online.wsj.com
Insurers nationwide plan to raise premiums on some Americans as a direct result of the health overhaul as soon as next month, complicating Democrats' efforts to trumpet their signature achievement ahead of elections.

A vigorous opposition controlled congress is the only reason that Clinton managed to balance the budget at all. (if it wasn't smoke and mirrors)

I hope to see some of you there and hear your ideas about how to turn the economy around and put people back to work. If you can't make it out, please ...share your thoughts on America Speaking Out.

Really William, so you're saying that someone who has researched, studied, and devoted their careers to a particular area (economics) don't have any better ideas than you? I can't see how recommending that we rely on experts rather than id...eas like yours is "drivel".

      Let's look at your ideas.

"Get back to the Constitution". That's a meaningless statement, how specifically are we NOT following the Constitution?

"Limit the power of the federal government...", you may have a point here but again, no specifics. Besides, you'd have to make a case that limited government power is a good thing (it may be, you'd just have to make that case).

"Cut taxes", hmmmm, that adds to the deficit. The last unfunded tax cut (Bush) added over 2 trillion dollars to the deficit. That's not good.

"Cut spending", sure great idea, we'd do that by firing people right? Oh but that adds to unemployment when we can LEAST afford to do that. That's not good either.

"Cut regulations", are you SERIOUS? Have you already forgotten what caused this deep recession? Would you like to have less regulations for off-shore drilling? Food inspections? Child labor?

So your ideas are either too vague, or would damage our country even more than it already has been through unfunded tax cuts, unfunded wars, and deregulation of the financial sector.

Sorry, I'll stick with the experts.

‎@ William. and where were all these great Republican ideas during the eight years they were in power in the White House. Where was the outcry about deficits as supplemental after supplemental was passed in the congress? Where was the co...ncern about the Constitution as the Bush Administration created the Imperial Presidency? What about the Obama Administration has given rise to all of these pressing concerns? Perhaps because he is trying to clean up the mess left him by the Republican administration. It is going to take more than two years to do that!See More

Doc Hastings The House is voting today on yet another baiilout - this time to states that passed unsustainable budgets. I have voted against each and every taxpayer funded bailout so far, and will oppose this one as well. The fact is, those who control Olympia expanded government programs knowing that they could not pay for them. T...hey chose to avoid the hard decisions required for a real balanced budget and instead banked on this liberal Congress to bail them out. Enough is enough.

Okay John. Have you looked at the way DEMOS vote 100% of the time with Obama's wishes? Each party has a certain line, and most members of that party vote with that party. Demos want everybody under Government control, Republicans feel we sh...ould teach people to help them selves, and if they can't

Doc Hastings I had a good visit to several businesses in Yakima and Ellensburg yesterday. At each stop we discussed the need to help small companies invest in their future, create jobs and grow the economy. It is past time for those who control Congress to end their agenda of increased taxation, bailouts and runaway spending, and... instead focus on policies that help small business create jobs and grow our economy. Thank you to the folks at Coca-Cola, Pacific Steel, Fitterer's Furniture and PatRick for taking the time to visit with me and tour your facilities.

Jamie- Taxation is the glue that holds our country together; that's why we have a constitution to keep the taxation accountable and representative. You don't get to peal away amendments you don't like to make a quick buck. You want to bre...ak up this country into little tax shelters where each country competes with the other over which big box corporation sets up shop, taxing the little guy for things like food and water while the fat cats continue to trade mutual funds unhindered. Move to Freakin' Dubai if its such a thriving economy, kind of a little problem with women allowed to vote, but no complicated taxation.See More

I found this over on the POGO website http://pogoblog.typepad.com/pogo/2010/07/notes-from-clear-act-markup.html

"In his opening remarks, Ranking Member Doc Hastings (R-WA) raised a concern that the committee was acting prematurely in passing... this bill, as they did not yet know all the facts about the oil spill in the gulf. Chairman Nick Rahall (D-WV) responded, lightly saying that if they waited for all the facts Hastings wanted the bill wouldn’t pass until after everyone in the room was long gone. Here at POGO, we’ve seen enough evidence that the government’s regulation of the oil industry needs to be reformed."

The Dems may have yanked a provision, you tried to kill the whole thing!

Doc Hastings Another provision of the new health care law will put severe restrictions on small businesses, creating mounds of paperwork and increasing costs for all companies. Read the story below for yet another example of how this government takeover of health care is bad for the economy, bad for productivity, and bad for job creation.
