We'll get some pics up soon. Their speeches were fantastic. Janel talked about what she calls "institutionalised paralysis of the mind" - basically how people's attitudes are what limits her, NOT her wheelchair! Tony spoke about his near death experiences and how hard he worked to get back to work after he lost his sight and what he learnt in the process. They were awesome, as always.

it should be good. I will talk about my own art practice and less than usual career trajectory. ( I am self- taught - as many with Asperger's Syndrome are, and I have not done an undergrad degree because my particular presentation of o AS has prevented me from doing so. These days in the arts it is almost prerequisite for an artist to have a degree... See More and to have attended tertiary institutions. It is very difficult if one has not done so as there is an assumption from other artists and curators that art school training is a must and a given.
I have built a career in an unusual manner - similar to the way Autistic animal behaviourist Temple Grandin discusses in her books. I will also be talking about the work of Asperger's artist Leigh Arnold - a male with AS who does phenomenally detailed mathematical drawings, as well as the work of Lae Oldmeadow - a wonderful fibre artist who is dyslexic and gifted in his realm. Each of us is self-taught and have achieved some degree of success in the arts. And each of us attempts to approach our art practice with integrity, depth and spiritual commitment. Good to celebrate difference and diversity. :)
