As your national secretary since 2008, I have been in regular contact with many of you, using a variety of social networking tools to provide timely reminders as well as information about what AAJA is doing, such as issuing statements about journalists detained overseas. I have pushed for transparency at all levels of the organization and have delivered by providing detailed minutes of board meetings.
My experience means the job of secretary is almost second nature, so I can help AAJA in other ways: by representing our members’ needs on the UNITY board, for example, and ensuring that our organization has a voice in the media hub that is Washington. I will continue to look for new partnerships with groups whose missions match ours, and I will help foster relationships with potential funders.
I have been involved with much of AAJA’s forward-thinking programming, including recognizing that a multimedia world means we can dispense with track-based sessions during the national convention, which was implemented in Miami two years ago.
I welcome your ideas in a time of monumental industry changes. Now, more than ever, AAJA needs someone who is nimble, responsive and reliable.
Reelect Doris: She’ll deliver.
