DotSport The ICANN Board has approved the concept of Expressions of Interest in new gTLDs. A plan has to be presented by the staff in february 2010 for approval, after community comments.

DotSport participated in the drafting of this document, because we consider it vital now that we show our community that things are indeed going ahead. We hope that ICANN will follow the suggested path that was identified by this working group.

DotSport The ICANN Board today decided to ask its staff to develop a plan that would allow potential new top level domain operators to express their interest. This is a good step forward. We at DotSport will certainly use that opportunity to showcase our community-based approach.

DotSport According to some comments heard here in Seoul, the target date for applying for a new top level domain could be postponed again. Application date "could" be after 2010, not "will be." . ICANN won't commit to 2010, but that doesn't mean 2011.

my guess is that the issue with TM will stop (slow) the process. just a guess... maybe Uniform Rapid Suspension System (“URS”) should be implemented...? all other issues like root, security, separation is to be solved in few months...
