Norbert Wurzel

Norbert Wurzel ah, by the way: on the very day of my 42nd birthday (now 2 years years ago) I ran (and finished!) my first marathon (42 kilometers). That was fun. Thank you Douglas for getting me this through.

Norbert Wurzel

Norbert Wurzel I gave my son the name "Leovinus" (actually "Emil Leovinus") after the ingenious architect from "Starship Titanic". Is there anyone here who gave his/her child the name because of a fictional character by DNA?

There is one flaw, Glenn. Marvin calculated the square root of -1 "in a moment of boredom".
1. A moment being only a brief/short period of time.
2. The program to postulate the question was to have taken millions of years.
3. Marvin could have been working on the question and gotten bored and just happened to solve the square root of -1.
4. Marvin did, in the end, come up with the answer and I'm sure it was pathetic. ... Read More

The rest of the theory makes perfect sense. One part that was left out was that Marvin had lived through countless millions of years and through the complexities of time travel the moment of the Earth's destruction could have occurred at any random point of time.

But the square root of -1 isn't 42?

I want to buy them for my new Polish girlfriend... via internet preferably...

Mhairi

Mhairi I'm just rereading H2G2 for the first time in years - still absolutely brilliant. I'm glad he wasn't around to see what an arse they made of the movie though! The script may well have been mostly his but the casting and costumes effects were so dissapointing - why hide Zaphods head and make Marvin all round!

Norman Woolsey

Norman Woolsey Adams is as good as writers get. he knows how to invoke every human emotion through his stories, most importantly humor. and who is this god person anyway?

Stefán Hjalti Garðarsson

Stefán Hjalti Garðarsson I have a theory about what 42 really means, it´s a small mistake of Deep Thought, in stead of for-tea-two it is sopposed to be tea-for-two, and that´s the meaning of life the universe and everything, just two organisms having a cup of tea together?

Laurinda

Laurinda Oui, Douglas Adams me fait plus rire que Fredric Brown.

Owen Workman

Owen Workman When Marvin died, did anybody else feel as sad and manically depressed as he is (or was)?

Ash
Ash
I first heard Marvin 'die' on the radio series, which made it doubly depressing - Stephen Moore's articulation of Marvin's last words (after having seen God's final message): "I think I feel good about that...goodbye Arthur..." made my heart sink.

What was funny about it was that the scene was constantly alluded to as 'the good bit with Marvin in ... Read Moreit' in the previous episodes. Even funnier was Arthur's response "miserable git...I'll miss him." But all in all, no, I certainly didn't feel as maniacally depressed as Marvin...his death was saddening, but I don't think it's even possible to be as miserable as Marvin!!

With you all the way mate, while Marvin WAS the most miserable mound of metal in the multiverse, he was definitely the most awesome one at that
