I like this article. I'm having religion problems at my job, again, so I really want Christians everywhere to learn more about the reality of non-Christians in their midst. It's supposed to be a religion about love, and I'm really not finding that part lately.

Abdullah, first I completely agree about knowing more about each other in order to progress as a society. I try to look inside each person and view me from their perspective (not always easy). I look into the eyes of that beautiful baby in your picture and see natural unspoiled beauty and goodness.

Now that being said, it is not the individual Muslim I am addressing, it is Islam and it's teachings as a whole...specifically Sharia. I feel the same way about Christianity and its individual practitioners. My beliefs are equally shared about Islam and Christianity, just ask Jill. I believe they are both evil archaic superstitions that no longer has a place in a modern scientifically educated society. They are tools of evil men promoting intolerance and discrimination and used to harm human beings who do not conform each particular dogma.

Not once, I mean even once, have I ever seen an Imam stand up and condemn actions similar to those I posted in the links above. Not once. When a religion can drive a physician, who is sworn to do no harm, into a psychotic frenzy to the point he commits mass murder, something is wrong with the religion....not the individual. He was a victim of his religion. When a religion drives an individual who promotes the sanctity of life to murder another living breathing human being who performs a legal medical procedure with consent....it is the fault of the religion.....not the individual.... See More

As a secular citizen of the world I believe society has an absolute right to enact controls over a religion when that religion cannot police itself and consequently poses a threat to social order and progress. I believe this is especially true when a religion seeks to target a specific segment of the human race based upon their faith, not facts.

Religion is a choice, you're not born that way.

Ok Greg, I have another experience with Islam. Islam has a lot of great potential goods and joy. I know those people you were talking about very well, I meet them all the time.the problem is not Islam or christianity, the problem is bigotry and intollerance that implicit in all humans.
without the religions and values the life might be not better than with them.

Dr. Jill Carroll Religion is what an individual does with his solitariness. (Alfred North Whitehead) - Hmmm.....very Whiteheadian.

In simplicity, I do think religion is often the individual's (and the influential group's) attempt at meaning making. And IMHO the searches for meaning are often much too short and directed by the community. Thereby superficial.
What say you, Mr. Frankl? Was your religion borne of your solitariness?

Tonight's meaning is blue bell, home made cranberry sauce, and almonds.

Hi Jill,
I also have familial ties to Louisiana, specifically Monroe. The beautiful Ouachita river, the cotton plantations, the many winding bayous and prevalence of huge moss laden trees make it a very lovely place. Monroe was very "old South". I moved to Houston in 1972.
