Dr. Mark Cheng encourages you to go back to the most fundamental parts of the FMS and the correctives. Remember, per Gray Cook, when applying his corrective exercise patterns, "If there's a dysfunction or asymmetry, it's a corrective. If there isn't, it's an exercise."

Dr. Mark Cheng had one of those mornings where teaching brought tons of new ways to explain and clarify how traditional martial arts and functional movement are inseparable!

Dr. Mark Cheng just finished with a shoulder rehab patient whose shoulders were treated like a dissection cadaver's. He's never been happier with his shoulder function after CK-FMS shoulder repatterning exercises taken from the Turkish Get-Up!

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighters benefit enormously from training with the kettlebell. Punching and kicking power improves exponentially, the grip is strengthened enormously and the body becomes extremely resilient. ...

Dr. Mark Cheng is about to embark on yet another WICKEDLY cool mini-project... as if there aren't already more than enough irons in the fire!!! Too much fascinating stuff to speak of in one status update & might require a blogpost once more is shovelled out of the inbox!

Dr. Mark Cheng expresses his deepest appreciation to all of the Veterans who have served our country. Any of you who come to KBLA this Sunday are my personal guests and train as such.

Dr. Mark Cheng has another tip for your lats.... If you're having difficulty starting with or keeping your lat engaged during the Press, Snatch the KB up first, pause at the apex to hyper-engage the lat (ideally near a mirror for visual feedback), and lower the KB to the rack as slowly as possible while keeping the lat as tensed as possible.

Dr. Mark Cheng wants you to try starting your Turkish Get-Up by pulling the KB handle with both hands to your navel instead of to your chest. It'll make priming your lats so much easier and keep your shoulders further away from your ears. Press with both hands, keeping strict wrist alignment as if you were punching, and feel how much more you involve your lats right from the get-go.

Dr. Mark Cheng is one jetsetting Chinaman today. These day trips just rock me.

Dr. Mark Cheng may be doing a little too much kettlebell teaching. You know it's bad when you have nightmares about people vehemently telling you that the best way to stabilize the shoulder is with the neck.

Dr. Mark Cheng reminds you that, per Pavel Tsatsouline himself, it's NOT about the kettlebell as much as it is about the movement patterns that define strength and vitality. Principles that are well understood can be expressed in no shortage of ways and in infinite contexts.
