Earphone Solutions

Does anyone know of a way to connect my video ipod and my 2.5mm LG Rumor to my favorite headphones (Shure, Westone, and UE) so I have a mic for phone calls, an automatic switchover to a phone call from whatever I might be listening to on the iPod (putting music on a Rumor seems so...lame and impossible unless you buy it thru the phone -- not ... I know it sounds complicated, and I don't mind a few wires, but I need to be able to listen to music, take/make calls, and use those two devices with whatever set of headphones happen to be available at the moment. Is there an elegant solution out there that does not require big bucks reinvestments?

Gary, the problem with sell phones is that aside from being a 2.5mm, they are also wired differently from model to model. There are adapters for 3.5mm - 2.5mm but to find out if they would work is a try and miss, unless you buy the accessory from the carrier store (Verizon Store, ATT store, etc).

Thanks. I figured as much after half an hour at Radio Shack. Apparently my iPod compatible Westones, UEs and Shures all have 3 contacts, and the "sell" phones as you so wisely spelled it (I hate 'em) need a 4 contact 2.5 plug to add the mic data...so I just may end up wiring a small circuit board if I can figure out what my sell actually uses. I ... Read Moredon't like Bluetooth because the phones are bad enough as they are; bluetooth just adds more problems. Hence the need for a Rube Goldberg setup to listen to my iPod and switch to the phone when I must...open to any electronics geeks ideas. Send me a wiring diagram?

I know what you mean. I'm by no means an audiophile, but the moment I tested the W3 (only for a handfull of songs) I was sold. I'm still deeply loving the W3 and still am amazed by the sound quality
