Economic Gangsters
How do you say "economic gangsters" in Korean?
The international interest in Economic Gangsters keeps on growing. We've now signed agreements with publishing companies around the globe to translate EG into Chinese (mainland), Dutch, German, Korean and Thai! More translation deals are apparently in the works. We're delighted to get the book's message out beyond the usual markets and hopefully help shape the development policy debate in developing countries.

Economic Gangsters
NPR's Marketplace ran an interview today with Ted on Economic Gangsters. You can check out the audiocast of Ted and Kai Ryssdal's conversation at:
http://marketplace.publicradio.org/displ ay/web/2008/11/10/economic_gangsters/?re fid=0
One of the highlights:
Ryssdal: So, how do you fix it? Do you throw more international aid money at the problem? Do you get NGOs involved? I mean there has to be some output of this right?
Miguel: There's a raging debate right now about what should be done in the world of foreign aid. To the extent that foreign aid is largely stolen by corrupt leaders or destroyed by civil wars, it's not going to have much of an effect on economic development.

Economic Gangsters
Dear EG fans,
Ted just had an interview this morning on the book with Kai Ryssdal of National Public Radio''s Marketplace. It should air sometime in the next few days. Keep your ears open for it, or you can check out the podcast online at Marketplace's website: http://marketplace.publicradio.org/

Economic Gangsters
An Economic Gangsters German language edition is on the way, with Campus-Verlag (http://www.campus.de/).
(No, Ray and Ted will not be doing the translation...)

Economic Gangsters
Economic Gangsters got a really great book review from Publisher's Weekly, including a coveted "star" as a pick of the week, and the following quote:
"This thorough, thoughtful guide to global corruption is an engaging, disarmingly upbeat read for fans of Freakonomics and Malcolm Gladwell."

Economic Gangsters The Economic Gangsters Book Launch party at SF Yoshi's Jazz Club was a blast - check out photos of all the goings on!

Economic Gangsters There are two very good pieces of Economic Gangsters news today.
dec/30/economic-gangsters-how-corruption -can-impede-economic-development/
First, Ted got interviewed on New York City's NPR station this morning, on "The TakeAway", where he brought out the disturbing connections between the kind of corruption that's widespread in poor countries and the Madoff scandal right here in the US. Check out the audio link here:

Second, we just found out that Economic Gangsters is going to be translated into Portuguese! In addition to getting the word out in Portugal and Brazil, we hope this will also help spread EG's lessons into Lusophone African countries like Angola and Mozambique. Stay tuned!
