First aid is a valuable life skill that is applicable in any environment. It provides people with the rescue skills to manage illness or injuries while accessing emergency services. First aid training also has an injury prevention role. Research has shown that individuals with first aid training are less like to become... injured. First aid training from the Lifesaving Society is a continuation of the Society's efforts to provide Canadians with the education to prevent injury incidents and provide appropriate rescue responses if an injury occurs. Lifesaving Standard First Aid (LSFA) provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. This course is for those who want an in-depth understanding of first aid such as: medical/legal aspects, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns, and medical emergencies. Includes CPR-C certification. This course will require pre study as it is a compressed course and we are recommending it for ages 12 and over, adults are welcome. The cost is $75 per person for SHiNE members and SHiNE members can sign a waiver to leave responsible children 12 and over at the SHiNE Centre for the course. Non members may register for $100 per child if there is space, they must sign a waiver and remain at the SHiNE Center to be responsible for their child. Memberships can be filled by printing the online membership application and sending it and your fee to the SHiNE Centre.

Parent Connection Nights are our evening adult meetings - a combination Chat Night / Open House. This is an evening for all homeschoolers, beginners as well as the more seasoned! It's a great gathering place for people who are exploring the idea of homeschooling to ask questions and meet people who are already well on ...their homeschooling journey. And for those who have been at it for a while, this is a chance to have a night to socialize with other homeschooling parents, to talk about the issues that have come up for you and to have a great time giving back to the community by answer questions for those who are just starting out.
To add to the evening, the library will be open for SHiNE members to check out books and resources. There will also be an opportunity to get help signing on to the forum and/or forum tours for those of you who are not quite sure how to get around in it yet. Tea and a light snack will be provided.
