Simon Hoskyn first began writing his own music at the age of twelve, and after a number of years of attempting to become a punk-metal star, Simon picked up the acoustic guitar and refocused his energies towards a solo career as a singer-songwriter. His influences ...also made a slow but steady progression away from Dimebag Darrell and Flying-V guitars towards the likes of Bruce Cockburn, Rufus Wainwright, Pedro the Lion, Jeff Buckley, Ryan Adams, Joni Mitchell, Sufjan Stevens and others.
“The Seen and Unseen” was released in August 2006. Conceptually and musically “The Seen and Unseen” not only displays Simon’s ability to push the limits of creativity within his familiar sound, but also showcases his ability to absorb the best elements of a variety of genres and bring them within arm’s reach of his audience. This album also demonstrates the extent of Simon’s expressive capacity, as songs like “Traded Plastic for Pearls,” “Another Day, A Better Place,” and “A Deeper Tongue” (movements 1&2), weave excellent songwriting, creative instrumentation, and powerful performances into a tapestry through which deeply personal themes of risk, love, failure, doubt and faith are expressed.
Following the release of The Seen and Unseen, Simon focused himself in a year of jazz studies, and performed in a variety of locations in Washington State, BC, Alberta, and Ontario. He also wrote a new basket full of material…
In May-June 2008, Simon’s 3rd solo album was recorded at Baker Street Studios and Buena Vista Audio in Vancouver, BC. The new record, which will be named “Sing of the Beauty, Say Nothing of the Pain”, was recorded and mixed by Jon Anderson, produced by Jon and Simon, mastered by Dwayne Harder, and features a variety of musicians from the Vancouver area, including Sheree Plett and Steve Watts (drums, In Medias Res). Songs like “Pyre”, “Storyline” (both above), and “With All of My Mind” are evidence that this material is a major evolution in Simon’s musical expressions. He looks forward to an Edmonton release in July 2009, followed by an extensive Canadian tour.

Introductions can be passive, rushed, and less than sincere. Then there is the record “Darker Days”, the formal introduction to Andy Shauf, with a distinctly opposite experience. Barely past 20 years of age, Andy serves up a collection of new-folk pop songs that begin and end with sincerity and meaning, patiently unwinding a theme of memories and moving on. It is a remarkably mature display of craft by a young man writing beyond his years. Citing recent influences such as Hayden and Wilco, Darker Days combines a handful of distinct flavors, creating an incredible collision of songs that are all at once Sufjan and Sam Beam, and a kid doing nothing to mask an old soul.

Zachary Lucky – Sometimes, people make things look effortless. We call them ‘naturals,’ or ‘prodigies.’ Zachary Lucky is one of those blessed few.
Music in this day and age seems to be a dime a dozen. Tacked up and stapled to every bare inch of telephone pole, tucked away in every corner of every venue, and scribbled on burned CD’s jammed in disc drives everywhere are the worlds ‘next big thing,’ it seems. In a society and a culture where we are spurned on by materialism and achievement, Lucky is, seemingly, a red amongst a sea of blue. His inspiration is simply an act of giving. His music gets alongside you, accompanying you throughout your day. There is a sincerity in his words, and an optimism in his melody. Lucky manages to communicate his messages of beauty and hope with an unstrained ease.

Matt Epp is a troubadour in the purest sense. He lives on the road and crafts his songs from his experiences, from Mexico to Newfoundland and everywhere in between. His new album ‘Safe or Free’ is a testament to that lifestyle influenced by the geography of his tr...avels and the relationships he develops along the way. Co-Produced with John Paul Peters (Waking Eyes, Comeback Kid) and recorded at Private Ear Studios in Winnipeg, MB, ‘Safe or Free’ proves Epp Canada’s folk-soul mystery collaborator.
The 12 songs on ‘Safe of Free’ showcase Epp’s dynamic vocal range and unique songwriting. From the unshakeable love duet This Old House (with Eliza Gilkyson), the dynamic commercial radio ready Working Holiday, to the Ryan Adams-esque rock of Cover Me, and the haunting duets They Won’t Find The Bodies (with Brandy Zdan of Twilight Hotel) and I Am The Wind (with Jesse DeNatale).
Emerging from the rich music community of Winnipeg, MB, Matt Epp is known for his diverse personal and musical connections including collaborations with Eliza Gilkyson, Jesse DeNatale, Matt Mays among others. His pre-music history includes professional skateboard film-making and acting, and his preference for homelessness and hitchhiking over a fixed address. His previous release ‘Orphan Horse’ (2008) was a favorite on CBC radio and Alberta’s CKUA radio network. Matt will be on tour in support of ‘Safe or Free’ in the fall of 2009 in Canada and Europe in early 2010.

If the road wasn’t made for touring, then what was it made for?!
Being hailed as one of the hardest working musicians out there, Andrew Allen has undoubtedly earned the title. He was born entertaining.
With only a year under his belt as a solo artist, he’s shown th...at he not only has the drive, he’s got the whole highway! Hitting the road with a full tank of finely tuned pop songs, an incredibly entertaining live show and what seems like limitless energy, Andrew has proved time and time again that his songwriting style – sandwiched uniquely between the styles of Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Maroon 5 – mixed with his quirky personality, are the right ingredients for success.

Joël Lavoie is a versatile guitarist, composer, singer-songwriter and studio technician. He is a graduate of the Grant MacEwan College music program with a Major in Performance and Composition. Joël has recently released his first solo recording, ‘La Récolte’(The ...Harvest) produced by the very talented and Edmonton’s own, Doug Organ, in the fall of 2008. “It’s basically a collection of songs that I’ve written in the past ten years and I wanted to put them on record with some killer musicians!” says Joël. His sound has been compared to Neil Young, Daniel Lanois and French singer-songwriter Francis Cabrel. Born in Peace River, Alberta, Joël was raised on a farm near the village of St. Isidore. He took up saxophone at the age of twelve but was seduced by the guitar and began studying blues, rock, and finger style techniques on that instrument. He began his performing career in 1995 with the band Cosmik Debris and his songwriting career in 1996 with Lé Twés. In their heyday, Lé Twés captured the imagination of the Franco-Albertan community. The group was a smash hit at the Loin des yeux, près du cœur event in Montréal (1998). Lé Twés recorded their one and only album ‘Les pieds dans bouette’ in 1999. They later disbanded because of the tragic death of their band leader Martin Lavoie. In 2003, Joël captured first place at the Gala albertain de la chanson, a provincial showcase for up-and-coming singer-songwriters. His song ‘Bonne nuit Pierrot’ won him a recording session with Radio-Canada. Joël is currently performing with his band Gojo and the francophone ‘Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’ band, Allez Ouest (Go West), which includes Jason Kodie, Mireille Moquin and award winning producer, Robert Walsh.

“Stephanie Bosch is an artist who is 100% original, new, and captivating! She’s like nothing I’ve heard before, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!” –U22
Here’s a pretty face you won’t fin...d in a dress. Making her way into the heart of the city, this small town girl has started living in an uptown world, equipped with tattered converse and blue jeans. At the age of 20, only one year after the release of her first EP “House With No Doors”, Stephanie Bosch was invited to play the 2009 Edmonton Folk Music Festival along with such names as Kathleen Edwards, Steve Earle, Tracy Chapman and Sara McLachlin. During that time, Stephanie released her full length album, “Departures” and only a week later was #24 on the CKUA top 30 radio charts, as the youngest and only Alberta artist. “Departures” was produced by Juno nominated Sandro Dominelli and “Canada’s Guitar Hero” Bobby Cameron. Working together, the dynamic trio was successful in creating a sound so original, it can only be described as Stephanie Bosch. With Jazz influence, and a classic rock foundation, this upbeat singer songwriter has a style of her own.
It was obvious from a young age that Stephanie was born with a natural talent for music that could not be ignored. Whether it was singing Christmas carols with her grandfather’s band (the Tony Bosch band), or singing in the church choir, Stephanie loved performing for a crowd. She was also introduced to acting at a young age and couldn’t get enough of the public eye.
One year after deciding music was going to be her life, Stephanie was discovered by manager and talent buyer, Eric Gerstenbuhler. After working together, the two formed a strong working relationship and close friendship. Since, they have combined their passion for music and started creating a team of highly regarded industry professionals who are just as excited as Stephanie to make her dream a reality.
After the release of her debut full length recording “Departures”, Stephanie has been taking the industry by storm. Currently she is looking forward to performing at: The World Skills competition in Calgary, Alberta Arts Days, performing on CBC National’s Alberta Sessions, mounting up for her grand release party in October, and touring Western Canada in November.
In the music world, it is the captivating uniqueness and individuality of a singer/songwriter which makes them stand alone in a room full of talent and song. Stephanie Bosch stands alone in that room, and once you’ve had a taste of her style, you won’t be able to get enough.

With gusto, Trina Nestibo is emerging on the Canadian folk-roots scene as a respected artist delivering a fresh new sound that’s attracting listeners far and wide. Trina’s spirited music infuses flavours of rock, soul, country and blues creating a sound that is tr...uly her own. She writes meaningful songs about real life and real experiences, drawing on her prairie roots, love for simple pleasures and flat-out appreciation for life. Gritty. Ethereal. Soulful. Trina’s signature voice is truly an instrument unto itself. At home on the stage, this no-nonsense woman captures listeners instantly with her heartfelt honesty and story-telling, and contagious energy. Trina accompanies herself skillfully on acoustic guitar, squeezebox and piano, with her bare feet stomping every step of the way.
This Edmonton based trio is a joining of Lynett McKell, Megan Kemshead and Paula Sommers. You will not soon forget the sweet licks and sometimes haunting songs these women have to offer. The gypsy styled instrumentation lays out a smooth foundation for the vocal harmonies to float above – and they do just that. Their voices blend together to create an instrument within themselves. Each with their own style of writing, every song is unique, vast and personal. This trio brings a lively show with a listenable diversity that keeps your ears guessing and your toes tapping. Climbing the local skies, The Low Flying Planes have played many of the regional festivals and have been noted as one of the big surprises of the summer!
Like honey for your ears Laurelle puts it all on the front line for her listeners consistently delivering just what you wanted to hear & then some! Whether harmonizing with friends, going it solo or championing some spontaneous jam session, her musical versatility & sensitivity never fail to find a fan in everyone. Writing music since the tender age of eight & singing for as long as she can remember, the universal language of music is her first & she speaks it with passion & conviction. Picking up the guitar at 16 & foraging her own soulful sound from her background in Jazz, Classical & Traditional music, she’s created something all her own that she’s eager to share!
“At times reminiscent of a young Joni Mitchell, Young’s material also includes hints of Tracey Chapman, or even Sarah McLachlan – but with her own style stamped into every cut.” Andre Wetjen, Prime Cuts/The Daily Courier (Kelowna), “The sensual ruler of the slow burn.” – Bill Bourne

Having taken over the local airwaves, performed countless shows, and toured western Canada endlessly to further their cause, The Lions are preparing to claim their rightful spot in the lineage of great rock n roll bands as they prepare with their full length album ‘Live, Love, Laugh.’
For ‘Live, Love, Laugh,’ the quartet explore a world beyond the pop sensibilities of their forbearers. The album begins with the familiar rock of ages that has brought The Lions acclaim regionally and internationally; a uniquely derivative take on rock n roll for the everyman. Songs like ‘Birds & Bees,’ ‘Magic,’ and ‘Screaming Gun,’ stand tall against anything released since the days when the Gallagher brothers still had their nasal septums.

Rangers of Power is a progressive indie rock band that was formed this fall by cousins Kelsey Thomson and Jordan Douglas Marshall Latter after collaborating at a small show at Hooliganz pub on September 20th. Stepping in to form the band are Dillon Giancola and Jason Grilo, Dillon, a skilled musician, was trained in Grant MacEwan’s music program as a pianist, Jason, an exceptionally competent drummer has honed his skill playing in local Edmonton band Sally’s Krackers. Kelsey is a songwriter and has composed the current Rangers of Power repertoire, he has spearheaded other Edmonton local projects such as The Bedtime Teens, Betty Machete, and The Deadtime Queens.
