Neguinho do Samba, the creator of Samba-Reggae rhythm passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, October 31st, 2009.He was master drummer and creator of school percussion of Olodum, and was also founder of “ Didá Banda Feminina” a very successful women drumming group of Salvador – Bahia – Brazil.Antonio Luís de Souza, 5...4 anos, aka Neguinho do Samba, was a street vendor, and his music and talent drove him to performing with David Byrne, Paul Simon and Michael Jackson. With Paul Simon he recorded “The Rhythm of the Saints, in 1990”. Happy with Neguinho do Samba creativity, Paul Simon offered him an imported car. Neguinho do Samba thanked the offer and asked for a house instead that was for sale almost the same price of the car. Paul Simon attended his wish, and Neguinho founded his percussion school.We all will miss him. His legacy to the Brazilian music will stay forever.
