Are you an eduwonk who's still in school? Join Students For Education Reform, a new organization started at Princeton this fall but soon expanding to other campuses. Stay in touch with students like yourself who support doing whatever it takes to close the achievement gap and improve our schools, and learn about intern...ship and job opportunities with non-profits, think tanks, and "gap-closing" charter schools. The SFER Facebook group is also a great place to post links to news articles or engage in discussion about ed policy with your fellow undergrad and grad students.

Given the current employment environment, community colleges and other post-secondary institutions are being called upon to play an even greater role in helping young adults gain the skills needed to qualify for work. A new report from Workforce Strategy Center (WSC) and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation ti...tled “Employers, Low-Income Young Adults and Postsecondary Credentials,” highlights programs in 14 communities that are successfully addressing the challenge of providing disadvantaged young adults with the technical and postsecondary education that may qualify them for skilled positions. John Mayor

John Mayor I'm a believer in that technology is the great disrupter and savior of education. Schools need to lead the use of technology, not trail.

SpellingCity.com is just one example of how basic activities can be modernized. Schools have been doing the same things the same way for too many generations.

It is nearly Aug. 1. Why aren't parents of constantly disruptive children being brought to Tweed and have the riot act read to them? Of course not, instead, there will be conferences to rate more teachers unsatisfactory. It's much easier to accuse a teacher of not motivating these recalcitrants than to do something wit...h a student's unruly behavior.

It's the same brats who year after year are rated unsatisfactory and as nothing is done, their deportment worsens. Get these recalcitrants off to work. They don't need a longer day and longer year.

WE NEED COMMITTEES OF ACTIVE AND RETIRED TEACHERS RUNNING THE SCHOOLS. WE CERTAINLY DON'T NEED JOEL KLEIN AND THE UFT. THE LATTER SOLD OUT THE MEMBERSHIP YEARS AGO. PARENTS DESERVE SOME SAY BUT MUST HAVE A SUPPORTING ROLE. LET PARENTS BE MORE CONCERNED WITH THE DEPORTMENT AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF THEIR CHILDREN.

Hi,
I am a visionary fine artist, graphic designer and author that is reaching out to all of the citizens of the world. Please feel free to experience my art @ http://www.artoniworld.com

Check out my new learning initiative for the 21st Century in the form of an action adventure series for kids & teens called: C2 & Posse...: Inner-City Heroes (pronounced Cee-Squared)
http://artoniworld.com/c2andposse003.shtml
A few charter schools are using it in their schools.
The C2 & PÓSSE: INNER-CITY HEROES character property utilizes exquisite, full-color illustrations, contemporary dialogue and suspenseful plot twists to create a new medium for introducing children and teens to social issues and inspiring messages that promote literacy, encourages them to develop human attributes and values called the "CODES4LIFE™".
C2 & PÓSSE: INNER-CITY HEROES promotes the premise that knowing things and being aware is "Cool" & that not knowing things and being unaware is "Un-Cool".

Peace,
Artoni

Claudia

Claudia Hi, I'm interested in the charter school movement: what works, what doesn't; is it the much touted solution to our educational "problems"?
