I was there in 58-59 and 59-60 for kindergarten and first grades. Anyone out there have those class pictures?

Elm Heights Alumni & Advocates There's a little history and some lovely pictures on this site. For those of you who are no longer in Bloomington, there's been a capital campaign to restore and refurbish the old school, which now serves as the Harmony Education Center. http://www.harmo

Yeah--thanks alot Esther. I'm such a nostalgia freak. So many great memories. Does anybody remember the chimpanzies my dad brought to the school for a visit during recess? "Buddy" came to Elm Heights in around 1962, then "Jimmy" in 1966.

Hi Admins: How about a thread to post comments about the school itself and its grounds? Thx.

Narissa, I have my kindergarten and first grade photos posted on my wall now. Also have a carnival photo I can post. Assuming only class photos would be of interest rather than individual school photos.

Elm Heights Alumni & Advocates What important events occurred during these years? What grade were you in?

My mother enrolled me a year early in school. I was definitely not emotionally ready for it. In Kindergarten, I was felled by a kickball to the stomach during an indoor recess in the gym...it literally knocked the breathe out of me. When recess was over, the teacher tried to make me go back to class. I believe I kicked her with my saddle oxfords ... See Moreand was so upset that I'd done such a horrible thing to an authority figure that I begged my mother to withdraw me from kindergarten. She did. But, the next year she put me in first grade. Sigh.

I remember the "COME" card well. If it was raining or super cold, there was a small wooden sign that said "COME" that the teachers placed in each of the lobbies before school. That meant you could go to your class as soon as you got to school.
