We are Futureproof, formerly the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s, supported Ken Livingstone's proposed changes to the C Charge, which would have done exactly what this campaign wants - getting rid of the alternative fuels discount and instead apply discounts based on the CO2 emissions only. We proposed that the ceiling be ...set at cars under 120 gm CO2/km, though with the recent technological improvements you could argue for all cars under 100gmCO2/km.
It never made any sense to us that a Lexus Hybrid 4x4 should get a discount, whereas small and efficient cars still paid.
There is one problem in allowing small cars that are diesel for free however - our city has a big problem with air quality, and diesel cars and lorries are the main culprits, emitting high amounts of PM10 and NOx; obviously cars with a larger engine size emit more pollutants. Allowing the small diesel cars could put London in even more jeapordy with the EU as it already violates the WHO limits on PM10 concentrations.Read More

Emissions Equality Success!! The Mayor has confirmed, in a written response to Volvo Car UK, that he will review the Congestion Charge exemption. Transport for London will report by the end of the year. 50% of What Car's audience thinks it should be CO2 based - what do you think?

Following its challenge to The Mayor of London, Volvo Car UK has been successful in its bid to review the current Congestion Charge alternative fuel exemption that, Volvo believes, unfairly biases hybrid cars over other low-emitting vehicles.

Ian Nguyen Ford Fiesta Econetic emmits only 98g/km co2 emmisions, that means it emmits less than any bluemotion vehicle at the moment.

Emissions Equality The Car Enthusiast proves that you don't need a hybrid to offer a low-emitting car that's also great to drive.
