Emotiv-EPOC We don't have plans for any beta testing in Canada at this time. I wish we could be everywhere, but we're a small company.

You can download SDK lite if you haven't already:
http://emotiv.com/corporate/1_0/1_5.htm
SDK lite allows you to develop applications for our headset by using an emulator instead of our actual hardware. It is a C++ API, though, not C# or .Net.

Here's what I can tell you, Marius Enger:
In an effort to ensure the highest levels of quality for our first consumer product, we are extending the testing phase of the EPOC. This is going to lengthen our release schedule and, as a result, we expect product to be shipping in 2009, rather than in time for the 2008 holiday season. We know many of you are anxious to order an EPOC and we’re anxious for you to experience it, so we will keep you informed of the availability details. As members of our “Emotivated” community, you can get regular updates from our NewsFlash emails, as well as by checking the Emotiv website

Emotiv-EPOC Hello Chris, we can't answer questions about international rollout yet. But Australia is important to us. Much of our research is done there, and the company was founded in Sydney, Australia. That being said, Emotiv is still a small company and we can't have beta tests in every location where we have fans. We hope you'll be understanding and Emotiv is doing our best to get the headset in everyone's hands as soon as possible.

Emotiv-EPOC @Ahmed: We appreciate your support! Unfortunately, at this point Emotiv will not be able to support your request for a Beta SDK. As you can imagine the interest in obtaining Beta SDK headset far outstrips the supply! Stay tuned for the next few months. Things are changing!

@Lora/@Ruan: We're working on our partnership arrangements right now. Stay tuned...
@Mike: The EPOC is not limited to a serial data flow. You can also combine actions across detection suites.

Emotiv-EPOC @Alexander: Emotiv is really offering a development platform, so the EPOC can be used for a variety of things beyond gaming. You should take a look at SDKLite if you are a programmer. As for EPOC vs. Neurosky, beyond the marketing, we could not be more different. The Emotiv EPOC has 3 detection suites: Expressiv for facial expressions; Affectiv for non-conscious moods (engagement/boredom, etc), and Cognitiv for thinking lift and seeing it happen. Neurosky has gone a different route and built a simple system that detects meditation and then they trigger an action. For Neursky if you want to lift a rock, you meditate and the rock goes up, if you want to push, you have to flip a switch, then meditate again for that action. With the EPOC, if you want to lift, you think "lift", if you want to push, you think "push". The marketing has clouded the reality!

@Justin: Absolutely, all of that runs through our website inquiry at:

If you've got a great product and have the funding, I'm sure we'd consider the partnership!

@Tom: No specifics on system requirements, but any relatively recent PC should work fine.
@Justin: No specific release date, though we have just announced that we will be delivering in 2009 rather than holiday 2008. We need to do some further testing on the commercial headset. Though the Beta SDK's work fine, and we are selling them to development partners right now.
@Shachar: We are actively pursuing partners to work with outside the US. When we have a solid plan, we will make the announcement
@Ryan: There is no movement required at all for the Emotiv EPOC to work properly. Any movement you see from people using the headset is just so that they can organize a consistent thought. We read the EEG data.

@John: I'm not sure where the Divine falls into our licensing model. I'd have to check. :^)
@Ray: Unfortunately at this point we are only offering pre-order reservations for customers in the US. We are actively looking into expanding our reach, so stay tuned!

Emotiv-EPOC @Hamish: The Emotiv Affectiv Suite would probably give you the right tools to build an application around meditation, though Emotiv hasn't built any software specifically for that application yet. Check out the SDKLite for the API spec!

Emotiv-EPOC @David: Not likely that we'll be compatible with OS X at the launch. I'm also a Mac user, but the gaming demographic has dictated that we focus on Windows first. We are considering Linux and OS X. Stay tuned...

@Dave: Interesting idea for sure, something tells me that the consumer market isn't quite ready for that kind of "integration"! :^)
@Sophia: Just responded to your query on the Emotivated page, but at this point the SDK does not expose raw EEG data. You should take a look at the SDKLite to get a sense of how we have designed the APIs to work for the software development community.
