Christmas Memories: The 1940's U.S.O. Radio Hour
Our 20th Annual Holiday musical
November 20th through December 20th
Featuring a salute to ALL Branches of the Armed Forces!
It’s Christmas Eve 1942 and you are part of the studio audience for a “special” live radio broadcast. Keep an eye on the On the Air and Applause Sign...s! The radio show, transmitting from Erie Pa shortwave via the Armed Forces Radio Network to our fighting boys overseas, captures the feel of the era.
Well known radio personality, Jimmy Lawrence, his trio of musicians and the WERE Singers have assembled to bring Christmas tidings to those men and women serving our country in the military during this most difficult time in our history.
An under rehearsed live rendition of “A Christmas Carol”; with “last minute” script revisions, tickle the funny bone as the company adds “sound effects” in its telling. Radio commercials from the time will make you remember that “a little dab will do ya”, or make you want to get up and dance to the Chakita Banana theme.
Classic 1940’s tunes made famous by the Andrews Sisters; In the Mood, Sing, Sing, Sing and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, along with Christmas classics like White Christmas, Go Tell it on the Mountain, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Santa Baby will delight and warm your heart.
A military musical salute to all the branches of the armed forces, soldiers letters to “home” and the rousing “God Bless America”; will make you realize “we’re all proud to be American”. A Christmas Medley of standards and the powerful “Let there be Peace on Earth” serve as the finale of this journey of a time gone by we must all never forget.
