Erika Grace Powell is a Vocal Performance graduate of Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina with musical interests including opera, classical crossover, musical theatre, oratorio, and spirituals. Erika was crowned Miss South Carolina 2005 and advanced to the 2006 Miss America Pageant, where she won the Bernie Wayne overall talent award and placed in the top ten. Recently, Erika won The Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions for the State of South Carolina and competed at Spivey Hall in Atlanta as part of the regional level of the competition in 2009. An active performer, Erika has sung the lead roles in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance in addition to being featured numerous times with the Furman University Symphony Orchestra, the Foothills Philharmonic, Hendersonville Symphony, and the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium. Miss Powell was both the state and regional winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition for South Carolina and the Southeast no less than five different times. In 2007, she was hired for Lyrique en Mer/Festival de Belle Ile, the largest Opera Festival in Western France, founded by Richard Cowan, where she performed Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann and Verdi’s La Traviata. Erika currently resides in New York City where she is auditioning, performing, and furthering her musical career.
